Dry throat

I have had a dry throat for three days now. It’s a little bit of a sore throat occasionally. But more irritating dryness. No cough, except when trying to clear it and at night a bit, but I think that’s because my mouth is open.

I am also a bit breathless. This might be imaginary or stress.
No temperature.
I do feel a bit tired achey, but again I could be imagining it.

My son has a nasty cold which started last Monday. I thought that was why I had a sore throat, but it doesn’t seem to be progressing. As he had a temperature, he had a Covid test which came back negative.

Is it possible that the (horrifically difficult) swab didn’t work properly and he actually had Covid despite testing negative and therefore that my weird throat and possible other symptoms are because I have got it too? Or am I being really paranoid?!

Just to add- as I haven’t got a temperature, proper cough or lost my taste/smell, I won’t be getting a test.

I think unlikely it would have been negative if he had Covid, much more likely you have his cold as I often get raised glands and a sore throat with any virus. Certainly can't hurt to get another test though. Did either of you have temperatures?

My DD has had the same dry throat for a few days, and I have had that and shortness of breath too.

But last night she finally burst out in a snotty cold, so I suspect that it was just the early stages of cold

He had a temperature (38.3) which is why we got him tested. I don’t!

Thanks for answering. I’m sure it must be his cold. But it’s taking ages to come out and making me feel a bit anxious as a result.

If I get a temperature, do I need to get a test if it’s likely to be his cold (I haven’t really been anywhere, and even when I was somewhere I was outside and 2 metres away from people the whole time), so if I get something, I can pretty much guarantee it’s what he’s got.

Yes you still need to test. If you have any of the 3 symptoms then test, don't assume it is the same virus (most likely but really important that people with the 3 symptoms test so isolation / contacting etc can be carried out).

I hope you feel better soon Flowers
