Do I need to isolate?

I got a call this morning from a friend who I’ve been in a bubble with. A friend she saw last Wednesday has tested positive for Covid. Neither she nor my friend has any symptoms. They sat at a distance last week but my friend and I don’t distance and See each other about 4 days each week. I’ve looked online but can’t work out if I need to isolate or not. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Your friend needs to isolate but you don't.

Think of it this way: when a school child catches it, their class/year mates have to isolate, but those classmates families don't have to.

So the anology is your friends friend is the one with it, your friend is their classmate, you are the classmates family.

Indirect contacts don't need to isolate. Your friend may need to isolate depending on when her other friend developed symptoms but you'll only have to isolate if your friend develops symptoms (as you are in a support bubble you need to isolate immediately if she does develop symptoms rather than waiting for a positive test as is the case for other contacts). If your friend is having to isolate you obviously won't be able to see her even though you are in a support bubble.

Your friend needs to isolate and only get a test if she has symptoms, you don’t need to isolate and again only get a test if you have symptoms.

I don't think your friend even needs to isolate if her last contact was over a week ago. Its contacts within the 48 hours before symptoms start that need to isolate

Yes as PPs have said you don't need to isolate.

Your friend is a little bit more ambiguous though as there's no point to measure the onset of her friends symptoms from - I think the official guidance is that she doesn't need to until contacted by Test and Trace!

Does the friend of a friend get tested routinely with work or something? If not how did she know to get tested if she doesn't have symptoms?!

Thanks so much everyone. I just couldn’t work out if I needed to.
