Does anyone else get a nervous cough?

I haven’t got any asthma, chest probs etc and don’t think I’ve had covid. But I seem to have developed a nervous cough, which gets worse when people get too near to me, or if I’m in a public placeand I know I can’t cough! Is this a thing? Does it exist? On my own I never cough at all, have no cold or symptoms. If I’m at work or somewhere where someone comes near me, I feel a tickle in my throat that I can’t suppress. It stemmed from when I was put to work on the wards over lockdown, and I did get a couple of tests at the time which were negative. It’s really getting on my nerves!

A friend of mine was saying this just yesterday - she says her dad told her she's had a cough since about 1993 :) She finds the more she tries not to cough, the more she wants to.

I also think prolonged mask wearing makes you cough a bit.

I had a coughing fit in a shop a few weeks ago and had to go outside to take the mask off and cough in peace away from people. Fortunately I had a boiled sweet in the car so had that and was fine.

I also notice that when my son comes home off the bus from college (wearing a mask) he coughs a bit too but at no other time.

I sneezed into a mask on Monday, that was pretty grim. I can't see that it's a good thing to be breathing in the contents of my sneeze :(

Yes I have a weird nervous cough now! Especially after I use hand sanitiser, something about the smell hits the back of my throat and I need to cough!

I get this all the time, my husband has had a cough since March and every time he coughs I get anxious and do a pathetic cough after in sympathy for him I think or just to irritate him back perhaps

Yes I do and I'm dreading starting in a new job next week as I don't want to get sent home on my first day.

My mum & MIL both have nervous coughs 🥴 they both cough continually in winter, no medical reason. Not ill. It drives me insane at the best of times. This year it’s going to be even worse!

I ended up getting sent for a chest xray with cough that lasted months a few winters ago. It wasn't until later I realised it was stress related (bully of a bass)

First time since covid we went to mils I was swallowing down a tickle in my throat and panicking that I'd panic everyone plus staying away because I was so paranoid. gulped down water and it went thank goodness!!!
