Got test...change test centre???

So I was given a drive through centre test 30miles away despite there being a test centre two miles from my house. Now if the issues with the tests are with the labs and not the test centres, surely it stands to reason that now I’ve been allocated two tests, I could pop to my local centre and see if they will test the kids there? I’m sure I read an article on sky news where someone did this with no problem. As an aside, I know my local test centre is always empty as I drive past it at least twice a day and we’ve all been for numerous tests before.

Why have you been for numerous tests ?

DowntonEstate · 17/09/2020 09:56

@ALLIS0N because we’ve had numerous symptoms between the three of us.

Why do you think you've been allocated two tests? Did you book two tests?

DowntonEstate · 17/09/2020 09:57

Ok, maybe numerous wasn’t the right word. Kids have been twice each before and I’ve been four times. Twice for symptoms, twice I’ve been asked to via the ZOE app.

@MaidenMotherCrone one each for my children. I’m not being tested.

Sorry misread your post.

They used to allow this but have been told not to. It was going around Facebook as a “hot tip” but over the past few days, loads of people have been reporting being turned away if they’ve gone to the wrong site. Twitter seems to be generally reporting the same, anyone saying they’ve done this successfully did it a while ago.

To be fair; there won’t be a way to build an efficient testing system if people don’t go to the actual centre they booked, it’d be like booking a GPs appointment and going to a different doctor... but I can see why people have done it.

You could risk it but it doesn’t seem to work anymore. Might depend on how up to date your local area is on the rules!

Just go where you've been asked to go. Or just do what the hell you like as many people are doing and to hell with everyone else.
I'm sorry but that number of tests (unless required by your employer) is fucking ridiculous.

I suspect different centre may send tests to different labs for processing, hence directing people to centre further away if local labs are struggling.
