Child with cold - send to school?

DS (9) has a cold, very snotty nose, no temp, altered taste / smell. He is coughing occasionally (has viral induced asthma which had seemed to be lessening over last 12-18 months). My gut feeling is that it's a cold and he should go to school on Monday if symptoms are same / improving.
It's what I'd have done pre Covid but not sure what the right thing to do is ATM. Am sure lots of parents in same situation, any advice please?

I would send him in if he had a runny nose in isolation. But taste is listed as one of the symptoms you must keep off school for. I'd keep off and arrange a test. Probably a cold but with cover about and increasing, this is just his things are right now. Fingers crossed it's nothing!

I've got a cold I caught off a kid in my class. I'm still going to work, the kid is still there... at least half of the class have it now. But it's just a cold.

🤦‍♀️

Just be prepared that if the school pick up on his symptoms they will put him in isolation and call you to collect (presuming you’re in England!) —and think you’re an eejit—

Sorry if I wasn't clear, he has a snotty nose and no temp, no altered taste / smell. Slight occasional cough which is exactly like his usual symptoms when he has a cold, certainly not 'persistent' at the moment.

As an aside I had been through the NHS book a test system to try it out in case a persistent cough or other Covid symptoms develop and constantly get the 'no test sites found' message for all options (drive through, walk through and home test). I'm aware that there are several testing centres within 10 miles of here (Gtr Manchester) but don't think you can just turn up without an appmt

DS 9 has same on Thursday. Didn’t send him in as I didn’t want to take the risk of having the entire class isolate. I was sure it was a cold but got him tested. Thankfully, negative. Still unwell with vomiting, headache and stuffy nose.

No temp Or new cough on Monday and he feels ok to go to school I’ll send him

Smellbellina · 13/09/2020 00:28

Oh based on your update I’d send him in.
