Covid measures at work

Does everyone wear a mask at work? I was amazed when a friend said she didn't. We're 40% back, temperature taken at entrance, 2m separated and wearing masks - I thought this was the norm?

Nope, my work (open plan office based) have expressly said masks not required but you can choose to wear one of you want. I somehow don't think anyone will.

midgebabe · 12/09/2020 13:14

There is a huge difference between wearing a mask for an hour vs all day
Also, masks are meant for when you can't distance , but they are less effective than distancing
It's better to do the distance thing which works should be doing

Dadnotamum72 · 12/09/2020 13:18

I'm a delivery driver that goes inside offices/ factories etc hardly any wear masks, some places take covid very seriously others you wouldn't know anything had chamged very varied.

Also go to doctors surgies and the same, can vary from some with staff and no masks and not that bothered to others that are extreme in their precautions.

TheGreatWave · 12/09/2020 13:19

We can if we want to, just one person on my floor, but she has her own office, so takes it off at her desk.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/09/2020 13:25

We have to wear a mask if we are away from our desks. Do you have to wear one all the time OP? That seems over the top

BunsyGirl · 12/09/2020 13:47

No masks, no temperatures checks and we are not sat 2m apart! Law firm. The fact is that the measures put in place at my DCs school are far more stringent than my place of work.

lljkk · 12/09/2020 14:08

At moment only in communal spaces, not at our desks. We have inconvenient & confusing 1 way movement system, heavily discouraged from being in office at all, several sign-in systems if present, lots of rules, eg: can't use our own water bottle to refill from tap, only 1 person allowed in the 4 cubicle toilet room, microwave removed, showers locked, "compulsory induction" to enter certain buildings, etc.

frasersmummy · 12/09/2020 14:58

I work in a university and it even varies from buidling to buidling..

one .. no face coverings but strict one way system and distancing

the other one face coverings in communal areas no one way system.. its all very odd

gingerninja99 · 12/09/2020 16:10

We are 2mtrs apart, no masks but can if you want to. Over 50% of office working from home and office is open planned.
Husband works in a factory, have all been wearing gloves and masks all day since the beginning, they can't social distance

110APiccadilly · 12/09/2020 16:15

No. We're on < 20% occupancy at the moment, so very spread out. No one wears a mask (though of course you could if you wanted to). I don't think there would be any point though - I'm probably 10m from the next person in our open plan set up.

Ours is same except no temperature taken.

Is amazing how varied it is.

My children's school is basically washing hands.

Frazzled13 · 12/09/2020 16:24

No masks required anywhere in my office.
They’re doing significantly reduced capacity, one way systems, and temp checking at the door.

Masks are not allowed at my place of work. Back with hundreds of people-at full capacity. Social distancing is not possible.

It’s just ‘wash your hands’ really.

Same here however I did take mine off as I was too hot and there were only 2 of us in one office and 3 in the office the other side of the stairwell.
ProfYaffle · 12/09/2020 16:38

No masks for us (unless you want to) but office capacity is much reduced to enable social distancing. Lots of other measures too like one way systems, limit on numbers in communal spaces etc

didireallysaythat · 12/09/2020 18:44

We are open plan office - bays which used to have 6 now have 2 or 3 at max. Masks on all the time except when eating or drinking (outside, in your car, or in the canteen where we have 6 separated tables, one person per table, wipe down before and after. As we can't get everyone back in at once we are hot dealing with all desks etc being wiped down at the begining and end of the day. One way system, toilets are one person at a time, all cautious. We've also been asking people to work from home for 2 weeks if they have been abroad regardless of where since Feb, and all visitors must have been in the UK for two weeks before coming on site. Sometimes it seems like too much but if you don't sign up to the rules you work from home instead, and it's meant that nearly everyone is now comfortable coming back to site when they want to/there's space.

I'd find it quite weird working next to someone who wasn't wearing a mask now!
