Do you think you'll eventually get it whether you're being careful/shielding? I still don't know whether I've had it. I'm waiting until pay day to pay for an antibody test because I'm starting to think I've definitely had it.

From Jan right up until now I've had coughs, fever, bunged up nose, aching limbs, fatigue, headaches, sore throats.. None which I've ever suffered from before for a long time. Last time I had a fever from a virus was in 2018! I had a fever twice this year.

I haven’t had it. I haven’t been poorly in over a year, thankfully. I strongly suspect DS2 had it at the end of December. He was 4 months old and extremely poorly, spent 2 nights in hospital and all they said was it was a very bad virus. Persistent cough, very high temp & dehydration.
I do think we will all get it at some point and life cannot just come to a standstill.

Paranoidmarvin · 11/09/2020 18:25

I have not. But at the beginning of jan. my son had a bad cough and a temp and was really really ill. Was it this I have no idea.

Armi · 11/09/2020 18:33

I had a ‘something’ in January but it was probably a cold. My 73 year old mother, on the other hand, had a horrendous virus. She’s the sort of person who keeps going, no matter what, but this floored her for several weeks. She had a terrible cough and temperature and debilitating fatigue.

I sort of hope that was it. She was so awfully unwell.

Bol87 · 11/09/2020 18:57

We all had nasty colds, coughs last winter but nothing new. I had a shocker of a cough when I gave birth at the very start of March! So did my partner & daughter. But who knows. We were all pretty under the weather. We were living a full life, nursery, soft play, parties, just regular germ prone life, as life is with a toddler!

We’ll probs get it if we haven’t already.. my DD is at nursery, we are out living life as much as we can ‘safely’ .. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Viruses are weird. My DD1, DD2 & MIL all had the same horrible, super snotty, sneezy cold last week yet me, my OH & FIL haven’t had a hint of it. This is despite both my DD’s repeatedly sneezing & snorting all over us day & night! I was convinced we’d all be ill but no! Similarly, the last stomach bug to enter the household DD, one cousin, my OH, Sis in Law & my mum had it. But me, my Dad, bro in law & other cousins all avoided it?! Again, despite being in close contact with vomiting people! So who knows with covid!

ragged · 11/09/2020 19:01

I have no reason to think I've had covid.
I've had very little respiratory illness in recent yrs, anyway.
I'm not truly being careful, but I avoid people because I don't want the hassle of having to self-isolate.
I reckon a vaccine will be widespread by end 2021.
(I reckon) I won't get the vaccine so I will get covid for first time in like... 12 yrs or something similar. I'll get the vaccine annually after I turn 70.

trilbydoll · 11/09/2020 19:05

Dc both at school and clubs so chances are we will get it. We don't use public transport and do most of our shopping online so if we do get it I feel the kids are the most likely source!

Oblomov20 · 11/09/2020 19:06

I've definitely not. But then I'm never ill. I've only had 2 colds and a chest infection in the last 15 years.

I went to the supermarkets at the beginning of vivid , and I returned to work after a couple of months.

I'd probably prefer to get it and get it over with.

JamSarnie · 11/09/2020 19:07

Have had no symptoms so presumably I haven't had it although we now know lots of people are asymptomatic so who knows.

I am eating out at restaurants but WFH so my contacts are very limited now compared to before.

Qasd · 11/09/2020 19:08

None of us have been ill all year so unless we are a whole family got it with no symptoms seems we avoided it!

Do I think we will get it? Umm I think the kids will and then maybe me and dh from that? Seems the most likely spread route given the rest of our day to day lives (still working from home, lots of our social life involving theatre or music is cancelled etc).

But overall I feel a bit what will be will be re are own experience I would not want to get it but overall we are all pretty low risk so if we did I think we would survive it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/09/2020 19:10

I haven't had it and in all honesty I'm not being particularly careful. I don't wash/sanitize my hands any more than I normally would as I believe that no exposure to any germs can weaken your immune system. I can't work from home so I'm going out to work as normal. DS is back at school. I'm not military about distancing from people. I only started wearing a mask when they became mandatory.

I don't know whether I'll get it or not. I genuinely don't get ill often, I've never had flu or anything that's really knocked me for 6. I get the odd mild cold but that's it. I suspect if I do get it I will likely be asymptomatic or only suffer mildly.

Doje · 11/09/2020 19:11

I've not had it. In my head I'll treat it like the flu this winter. I don't want it, but if it happens then it happens. I'm healthy, not (too!) old and the probability is that if I get it I'll not get it badly.

Meanwhile, I'll still wear masks and distance to make sure if I have it and don't know, I'm doing my best to not pass it on.

Chickenfingers · 11/09/2020 19:17

Not had it yet and I've not even been they careful. I am hiding away inside a lot on maternity but have been going out to the shops, and not exactly following the rules for months. I don't really know anyone else that has had it either (2 people suspected a week before we went into lockdown)
If I get it I get it. Will deal with it then, I'm not worried.

ShellieEllie · 11/09/2020 19:19

I ordered an antibody test today, I'm not sure if I've had it but it's highly possible given my DH did.

rottiemum88 · 11/09/2020 19:19

Do you think you'll eventually get it whether you're being careful/shielding?

I don't think I've had it, though I did have a very high temp for a couple of nights back in February with no other symptoms apart from the odd stomach cramp.

Given that I've only had flu one time in my life despite being on the planet for 32 years without a flu vaccine (except for the 1 year i was pregnant), I'm thinking the overall odds of catching it are still relatively low

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 11/09/2020 19:21

Do you think you'll eventually get it whether you're being careful/shielding?
Not necessarily. None in my household have had flu but I don't assume we'll get it eventually. However, we know a lot less about Covid-19 and have no idea whether it will follow a different pattern from other viruses and mutate, become weaker, get stronger or just suddenly die out. We cannot just assume a new virus will behave as previous ones have.

Mindymomo · 11/09/2020 19:26

They say the antibody tests are not reliable, but I know people who have had pre assessment covid tests before hospital procedures to be told they’ve had covid.

JenniferSantoro · 11/09/2020 19:27

My pharmacist told us not to bother with the antibodies test. He said even if you’ve had it, it doesn’t mean you can’t get it again so it will give a false sense of security.

sunseekin · 11/09/2020 19:28

My sister thinks her baby (then two months old) had it then too. The doctor said it wasn’t behaving like respiratory viruses normally do and then three weeks later covid was properly on the seen and we have all been left wondering.
Keratinsmooth · 11/09/2020 19:29

Are antibody tests worth the money though? Are they reliable? Even if they show previous Covid infection you can get it again and also distancing needs to still happen so the test outcome shouldn’t change behaviour

IamPickleRick · 11/09/2020 19:30

I couldn’t breathe in December. I was very unwell but had no cough, but I was breathless and struggling so took my husbands ventolin which I’ve never done before in my life. No one else had anything till January when husband was the same. Then February the kids were like it.

But was it covid? Who knows.

MissConductUS · 11/09/2020 19:30

Lots of people who don't think they've had it have simply had an asymptomatic case.

The antibody tests are pretty good if used in large numbers even if they're not definitive in single use.

tempnamechange98765 · 11/09/2020 19:30

I highly doubt I've had it, although DS1 and I were both ill in February, him with a temperature and long lasting cough (unusual!) and me with a really grotty cold type virus and very long lasting cough (not unusual, I almost always have bad coughs from colds).

I barely know anyone who has had it. I have two DC in nursery/school, so if I catch it I imagine it'll be from them, as both DH and I are WFH.

Marmite27 · 11/09/2020 19:31

By the middle of March, I’d had a cough for 9 weeks. They called a first aider in one meeting I had to leave as they thought I was having an asthma attack I was gasping for air so much.

I remember being given the side eye in one meeting about my cough and my manager saying it can’t be Covid she’s has it 9 weeks.

At the beginning I also had gammy eyes (stopped and haven’t resumed wearing my contact lenses) a temperature, and some digestive distress. I was also snotty and sneezy. In retrospect, I think I had Covid in very late December / early January despite it not ‘officially’ being in the country. I also fell asleep a lot when watching tv, but having a couple of young children does that to you 🤷🏻‍♀️

GreyishDays · 11/09/2020 19:32

I thought the antibody tests wouldn’t give you a positive so long after infection?

dudsville · 11/09/2020 19:32

I've been so healthy throughout the pandemic. I'm fortunate in that I can work from home and have my shopping delivered and can socially distance with any friends. I would have had a cold or two normally during this time as I use public transport and work in an over crowded building. If I catch anything it's going to be from the deliveries as I don't wipe them down (but I do wash my hands and surfaces afterwards). I would be very surprised if I got it. OH on the other hand is fairly certain he's had it and whenever I get an allergic flareup he makes the suspicious eyes.
