Do you think you'll eventually get it whether you're being careful/shielding? I still don't know whether I've had it. I'm waiting until pay day to pay for an antibody test because I'm starting to think I've definitely had it.

From Jan right up until now I've had coughs, fever, bunged up nose, aching limbs, fatigue, headaches, sore throats.. None which I've ever suffered from before for a long time. Last time I had a fever from a virus was in 2018! I had a fever twice this year.

@DianasLasso.. I'm exactly the same in that every cold I get turns into a cough that lasts months from winter right through to spring. I'm 48 but not asthmatic so don't know why I get this so bad. I usually get something about 4 times a year but this summer has been great as I've not had any illnesses ..until now as I've just caught DS's cold which will turn into a chesty cough and go on for months. I dread this time of year and now we have even more to dread. Sad

1happyhippie · 11/09/2020 21:47

I haven’t had it.
I work in a carehome and in March/April we had an outbreak. Many residents caught it and quite a few staff.
I don’t know if I will catch it. Apart from work, shopping and the odd meal out, I’m not doing anything.
The dc are all back to school, large secondary school and ds works in busy city centre pub, so plenty of mixing going on.

Hooleywhipper · 11/09/2020 22:15

I haven’t had it but am expecting to get it , I work in schools so assume I will get it from there. Although I consider myself careful and go shopping along with odd meal out, just presume I will at some point.

coronafiona · 11/09/2020 22:59

I'm terrified of getting it and am being careful to avoid risk, but it's impossible to avoid it completely. I hope there is a vaccine soon.

indemMUND · 11/09/2020 23:56

I haven't had it. I'm expecting I'll get it now I've no choice with DD back in school in a hotspot. Cases here are likely to put us in local lockdown imminently. Single parent with asthma. DD has struggled being away from other kids so no part of me feels it's right to keep her away.

catsarecute · 12/09/2020 00:42

I don't think we've had it yet (me, DH and DS in the house- presumably at least one of us would have had symptoms if we'd had it). I would be interested to have an antibody check although I don't think they're all that useful in real life- antibodies seem to fade off after a while, and there's some evidence you can catch it twice anyway.

We've been really careful all summer, but DS is back in secondary school now and cases are rising massively here. They've already had their first case in his school and have got some kids isolating.

I think we'll get it, yes. And I'm worried about getting it (clinically vulnerable). I think more needs to be done to make schools safer, but as it's not looking that likely that they'll improve schools I just feel like it's inevitable we'll catch it.

I actually feel like the government are back to the original herd immunity plan (even though there's no evidence we would actually get immunity if we had it anyway). It's a mess.

Vivana · 12/09/2020 01:11

I've not had it yet and surprised as I work with around 100 plus different members of staff and have been around hundreds of people on a weekly basis evn through lock down

Yes u guessed it I work in a supermarket

Rumbletumbleinmytummy · 12/09/2020 01:11

I'm not sure if DD had it late January.
Went to Dr, I was questioned of we had been travelling, I said yes, but not to places where theres a corona risk, weve just been to florida.
He said, well maybe it's the flu, she had the flu vaccine a few months prior, he did a swab for an infection and said it's probably a bacterial infection.
Took her pulse which was sky high. Sent her into the waiting room, brought her back in, talked me through meningitis symptoms to look out for.
Then asked me if I thought it may be coronavirus. At the time I said probably not, weve not been to high risk areas. He advised me to keep DD off school for 10 days. Straight to A&E if she got worse. I've since found out about atleast 1 more family who were in the same place as us the day
We left Orlando who had covid at the time. So theres a possibility it's been in our house.

If it hasn't been here, it will. I just hope we survive it.
DD was so unwell

Inkpaperstars · 12/09/2020 02:12

Given that I've only had flu one time in my life despite being on the planet for 32 years without a flu vaccine (except for the 1 year i was pregnant), I'm thinking the overall odds of catching it are still relatively low

I think I have only had flu once if ever, and have never had the vaccine. But I think I did get covid, not confirmed though. I think you can also get flu without symptoms. The difference is that with flu, asymptomatic cases can't spread it but with covid they can, which is one reason it spreads faster than flu.

PatricksRum · 12/09/2020 02:15

I don't think I'll get it.
I've begun shielding again.
Really hoping for a vaccine.

middleager · 12/09/2020 05:01

I was ill earlier in the year. In bed for 5 days with fever and throat like razors. It felt like tonsilitis, but my son was in Italy skiing with school in Feb half term, then he was ill with an unexplained high temperature (he's never ill) so who knows?
And even if I did know, what's the point? What would it achieve?

But I don't understand why you want the test? Not only are they unreliable, but what is the point? There's also no guarantee you can't get it again anyway. I'm generally interested in why you want the test.

RingtheBells · 12/09/2020 05:44

I don't think I've had it but who knows, I go out fairly normally as possible within the government restraints, obviously its something I would rather avoid like a lot of other illness but if I get it then so be it.

Samiad85 · 12/09/2020 06:29

Unless I’m completely asymptomatic I haven’t had it. I worked all through (key worker but not nhs or care work), ate out, have taken 3year old dd to park, day trips etc and she was in nursery all the way through lockdown, gone shopping etc I have of course washed hands more, social distanced but only wear mask when I have to (shops) and have not broken any rules.
I Don’t know anyone who has had a confirmed case or died thankgod.
I’m fit and healthy and don’t feel anxious about getting it myself but would feel worried if my 62 year old dad got it or parents in law despite them being healthy.

Plussizejumpsuit · 12/09/2020 06:41

I used to think it was inevitable but now I'm feeling its less likely. As I have managed not to get it yet with sd measures. But don't want to get complacent!

Rainyrain · 12/09/2020 09:44

I haven’t had it - had an antibody test recently so I’m fairly certain I haven’t but I do assume I’ll get it at some point.
We have a very full house, people going to work/school/college so I think it’s inevitable someone will bring it home eventually

GreyGardens88 · 12/09/2020 09:51

I was commuting on the tube at rush hour all through Feb and March until lockdown. I was very ill with something at the end of March..fever, nausea, loss of taste and smell, a small amount of coughing, stomach ache. I slept for about 2 days but then I was fine

Where do I order an antibody test?

userxx · 12/09/2020 10:09

throat like razors. It felt like tonsilitis

It was the nearest thing to tonsillitis I've had since them being taken out 30 years ago. I also described it as a throat full of razor blades, not nice at all.

lljkk · 12/09/2020 10:26

Lots of people who don't think they've had it have simply had an asymptomatic case.

By same logic, lots of people reckon they had covid when they didn't. Other germs are available.

I’d had a cough for 9 weeks

Yeah, that describes DH, too... in 2001. Except it was more like 16 weeks. Nearly hospitalised. He had pneumonia from Haemophilus influenzae. Not had pneumonia before or since.

pourmeanotherglass · 12/09/2020 10:40

We seem to have hit cold season, and they seem to be doing the rounds despite all the distancing etc. My cold isnt covid, i had a test to check. But having seen how colds are sprwading im not hopeful for avoiding covid when the numbers go up here ( low where i live at the moment).

MinaMurray · 12/09/2020 10:51

As far as I know, we - DH, DC and I - haven’t had it. But given that DH works in a hospital and DC are all back at school / nursery, the odds are that we’ll catch it sooner or later.

The antibody tests though - when they were doing these at DH’s hospital, DH was told that about 2 dozen staff in the hospital who’d previously had positive Covid tests had tested negative for antibodies.
No idea what was going on with that, whether it’s false positives, false negatives or something else entirely, but it’s made me feel a bit sceptical about how effective the antibody tests are.

CausingChaos2 · 12/09/2020 10:54

Thanks to a shocking immune system I’m making doubly sure I don’t catch it as it could trigger a relapse for me.

I don’t think I’ll get it. Live in a low risk area and am hardly going out.

zafferana · 12/09/2020 10:56

I don't think we've had it, because none of us have had an illness that matches the criteria for Covid, but I expect that we'll get it at some point. We live in the home counties, two DC at different schools, Covid cases rising again in this area, etc. We're not being careless, we're following the stupid, nonsensical roolz, but tbh I don't think they'll protect us. What will be, will be. None of us is in a vulnerable category and I hated lockdown, so I will continue to do what I'm allowed to, under the new police state that the UK has become.

Thisisnotnormal69 · 12/09/2020 10:59

I mean, everyone saying they haven’t had it doesn’t actually KNOW they haven’t had it a given so many are asymptomatic.

I’m in the same boat. And have no idea if i would catch it in future, I don’t think anyone does!
