On Sky news just now. 60% increase and 3,200 new cases daily. It’s very worrying.

@ceeveebee

I initially thought that. But the 3,200 is for the week ending 5 September. In that week there were an average of 2,300 cases (by date of test) so we are picking up around 70%. Not bad but not as good as I initially thought. So there are approx 900 people per day not being diagnosed and not self isolating
Yes. And also we don't really know how many aren't being picked up, especially because of the failure of Test and Trace. Major scope for problems in not picking up new outbreaks early. This is especially an issue with the impending start of the uni term, much movement of a high risk behaviour group round the country, freshers' week about to start and problems likely in picking up a rise in new cases

@lljkk

bare minimum of mask wearing etc

What is the "etc"?
Experience of South Korea, Singapore or Hong Kong show that wearing face covers really is a bare minimum -- as in fairly minimal impact. So what is the "etc" that would have lots of impact?

Strict border restrictions and proper quarantine, a working test, track, and trace system (put in place months ago), societal attitudes - social responsibility, consideration for others, long established good general hygiene practices.

If people did the bare minimum of ...

"People" aren't responsible for working test and trace or border restrictions (not sure what that means), are they? The other things are vague, too. "Social responsibility" means... what specific behaviour? Covering your face when you sneeze? Saying Thank you when someone holds the door for you?
