Everyone I have spoken to, or seen on SM have said how stupid it is and they will not be following the rule /law.

My dbs manager who owns the workplace. Was due to have a get together at home next sunday for their teens birthday.
They are now doing it at work. ( a garage.)
Has now said by doing it there and ' booking in the relatives cars for a visual inspection /safety check ' whilst waiting they could get together on forecourt spaced out, Because they would be 'customers' and they would be at work. And it's no different to it being random customers just because it's family.
So there would be 2 cars' booked in' one of. Which is a couple., one a family Of 3. Plus their own household of 4 (the teens work there weekends cleaning etc anyway)

Which made me think how silly the rule is. They can't do that in their garden but can on a forecourt (the garage is not on a main road or anything and out the way so unlikely to be seen)

Illogical indeed. Eat out to help out! Mix! Go to restaurants! Go to Peer! Save the High Street! Go to your office! Mix! Mingle! Travel abroad!

Oh wait, shit, yes do all of the above but don’t see friends or family please

That’s the bit that does not make sense

I am working from home, not flying anywhere, not mixing and mingling but I WOULD like to see my parents please, and my nieces, but NO, that is not allowed

... but please go to Pret, fly abroad, spend spend spend in lots of different shops, eat out a lot, go out, lots, mix with 100s of people, just not the ones you care about

Fuck right off you bloody government!

hexmeginny · 11/09/2020 15:17

@chocolatesaltyballs22

And doing whatever you please without any regard for others and the bigger picture is also very narrow minded.

We will end up in another full lockdown if people don't follow the LAW.

LMFAO Yes, because the Government are good at keeping things under control aren't they. You really are a piece of work.
chocolatesaltyballs22 · 11/09/2020 15:17

My point, which some people are entirely ignoring, is that the state of people's mental health will be a whole lot worse if we have to endure another long lockdown. There are PLENTY of things we are now legally allowed to do without some people insisting that they have to do xyz to bend the rules for their mental health.

As for the assumption that my life is fine and dandy, see previous comments re my mum.

I wonder why there is still a stigma against mental illness. Oh wait...
profpoopsnagle · 11/09/2020 15:19

As a family of 5 I will break it to see parents on both sides, if needed (they both live a distance away and seeing them as a broken up family unit is not really an option, or desirable). My Cummings sense tells me the possible extra risk of transferring or contracting Covid from a stable family consisting of 4 to a stable family of consisting of 5 is infinitesimally small. It will be covered under providing help to extremely vulnerable people exemptions, due to their health, and of course by Cummings sense.

I do not intend to break it for any other reason, and will continue to be picky about other social interactions.

Ellsbells12 · 11/09/2020 15:19

@EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire ignore her arrogant person she is ... sorry about mum but mental health is also on the rise

Funkypolar · 11/09/2020 15:21

Well, if I can’t see more than 6 friends or family in my own home, I shan’t be going to work in an office or supporting the economy by eating out or going shopping on the high street. I don’t see why I should go to Pret!

Safer staying at home and I’ll save loads of money too Smile Too dangerous to socialise, too dangerous to eat out.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 11/09/2020 15:21

And those of you who will continue doing whatever the hell they want regardless of the law are not arrogant? Oh please...

VinylDetective · 11/09/2020 15:21

@CrunchyNutNC

Let's hope so otherwise we will end up in lockdown again.
We won’t. The country’s bankrupt as it is.
EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 11/09/2020 15:22

Hate to break it to you but covid isn't going anywhere. It's here to stay. There is a point where we will have to say enough is enough and we have to return to normal life.

I read the other day that suicides have gone up massively this year since lockdown and whilst I feel sorry for anyone who has lost a loved one to covid I also understand that their lives are not more important than those who have died as a result of suicide and those who will die as a result of not getting cancer and other illnesses diagnosed and treated on time.

People were told to continue social distancing though weren't they, in the pubs, restaurants, holidays, etc.

We know damn well that people won't even try to social distance when with family in their own homes.

That's the difference. You're not going to hug and kiss random strangers in McDonalds (hopefully not anyway) or on a beach in Benidorm or in an airport. Parents, children, grandparents, uncles, aunties, etc etc ARE going to kiss and hug in their homes.

See the difference?

Funkypolar · 11/09/2020 15:24

It would be a lot safer if the government close down pubs, restaurants, non-essential shops, schools etc to get the numbers down.

It's bad management within the NHS causing cancer and other sufferers not to get the treatment they need. Not covid. Hospitals, GPs, clinics, etc should have been back operating close to normal a couple of months ago. There's no reason at all (other than bad management) why some NHS trusts have got back to work weeks/months quicker than others.
HamishDent · 11/09/2020 15:24

We will, but I think there will be many people who won’t. 6 is quite a small number and doesn’t allow even the standard family size of 2 adults 2 kids to meet with another family of the same size. If it goes on until Christmas, I wouldn’t be surprised it a lot of people break the rules.

BillywilliamV · 11/09/2020 15:25

Won’t be stopping my eldest DD from seeing her boyfriend, in his house of 7! Or My youngest DD from seeing her best friend in her house of 6, because I do worry about their happiness.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 11/09/2020 15:25

Yep, lets screw over the futures of a generation of kids who are sitting their A levels next year just so that we can mix in groups of more than 6.

FFS

Funkypolar · 11/09/2020 15:26

chocolatesaltyballs22 - well we have to to put health over everything else don’t we? That’s what I’ve learned on Mumsnet. Smile

But I know for a fact that there are people ignoring symptoms of illness and other things because they are constantly being told that the NHS is overstretched and they don't want to burden them. There will be horrible repercussions from this.

halcyondays · 11/09/2020 15:28

I’m pretty sure some people do hug and kiss random strangers while on holiday in Benidorm, McDonald’s not so much.

Toptotoeunicolour · 11/09/2020 15:31

It is because people have proven themselves unable to exercise their own sensible judgement that rules like this become necessary. You have to draw the line somewhere and make it law, unfortunately. No, plenty won't. Some will and we all need to hope that their good work will be enough.

It would help if GP surgeries took down the barbed wire and decommissioned the machine guns on the watch towers and actually allowed patients to enter again!
NailsNeedDoing · 11/09/2020 15:31

People can only be expected to follow laws that make sense, nothing about this one makes any sense whatsoever. I have mostly complied with what’s been expected so far, and I have definitely done my bit for the greater good in many ways throughout this. But like many, I have a job that the government is requiring me to do without social distancing inside or outside. If it’s safe for me to do my job then it’s safe for me too see other people too, because I’m not paid anywhere near enough to prioritise my job. Or, it’s not safe, and the government is already putting me at risk, in which case, life is for living and I may as well see any friends or family that choose to see me knowing what my job is.

They can’t have it both ways, I am not their puppet, and my family has already had enough stuff ruined because of lockdown.

Funkypolar · 11/09/2020 15:31

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire - well there’s a deadly virus in operation and numbers of infections are rising. So why are social venues allowed to remain open? Personally, I don’t fancy catching COVID19 going to Pret, even though we’ve been told to go to Pret and spend money.

mrsnorrismeow · 11/09/2020 15:33

The difference is there is no law which forces you to go to Pret.
