Photo ID for covid test

Have booked a test for my son this afternoon. The way the emails read, it looks as though I have booked a test for both of us. I did tick the boxes saying that I had no symptoms and was booking a test for somebody else, so the confirmation for me might just be so that I can enter the testing site.

It asks for photo ID for each person getting a test. I have photo ID but do not need a test. My four year old does not have photo ID. Has anybody else taken a child without photo ID? I imagine lots of young children won’t have a passport.

Don't worry, they don't seem to ask for it for children.

Whydididothatfuckingthing · 11/09/2020 12:26

I took my 8 year olds passport, they didn’t ask for it.
They just wanted to scan the code from either screen or print out.
Do take hand gel they ask you to use it.
Good luck.

I haven't received an email and I will have to leave for it shortly

conkersarebonkers · 11/09/2020 13:47

@Supertree they didn't ask to see photo ID for my DS. I took my own passport in case they'd need that instead, but they didn't.

@anothernamereally have you checked your spam folder? You need either the barcode in the email or the confirmation SMS in order to access the test site.

Supertree · 11/09/2020 13:57

I have had a text and an email for both of us, they say they want you to show these to be allowed entry to the testing site.

Just take your passports

We wondered about this when 7 year old DD had a test earlier this week. She doesn't have photo ID so DH (who wasn't having a test) took his own photo ID and DD's birth certificate with them. They weren't even asked for them though, just had to show the QR code.

PennyDreadfuI · 11/09/2020 14:25

Is this right - you need photo ID for a test? What if you don't have any?

Comefromaway · 11/09/2020 14:27

What happens if you don't have photo ID, like my in laws for example?

RingtheBells · 11/09/2020 14:27

This Covid testing isn’t very inclusive is it. Tough titty if you haven’t got a car, internet or photo id

anothernamereally · 11/09/2020 14:34

Well they let us have one as a 'walk in' no id required they just asked for dob. Then I uploaded barcode onto gov.uk when I got home

conkersarebonkers · 11/09/2020 14:35

@Supertree Just to be clear, the email I received did state that photo ID was required, but they didn't ask to see it at the test site.

@RingtheBells Is it not possible to request a postal test by phone?

Supertree · 11/09/2020 17:56

Ok we are back from the test ad they didn’t ask to see ID for either of us, just the qr code.

They also had big signs saying you don’t need an appointment, you can just walk in and to tell your friends and family. Online info said appointment only so it was wrong. Testing centre was in Wolverhampton in case that is useful to anybody struggling to book a test.

Place I went to was not letting anyone in without a booked appointment for the correct time slot and was asking for ID, so I think it depends where you go. I think in hot spots at some testing sites you can just turn up.

Supertree · 11/09/2020 18:23

Yes, I think they might have changed the rules for that centre and not updated info. Would have been useful to know that I could walk in to that centre as I spent three hours refreshing the page to get a booking this morning for no reason. In case any local people need a test, it was the whitmore reans walk-in centre.

Our result came through this morning (neg) so from booking to result was less than 24 hours!
