Home tests available for key workers but no one else?

Is this in the news anywhere or have I missed it? Just tried getting a test. None available for none key workers. Selected that I’m a key worker. Home tests available. Reset it back to none key worker. No tests.

I didn’t realise this was a thing? Is this why I can’t get a test despite trying since Monday?

I think it’s always been the case that essential workers were prioritised - there was a time in Spring when they first launched hone testing etc that only essential workers could get tests but then once capacity expanded it didn’t really matter who was prioritised as there were plenty. Now there aren’t. I think a lot of people will lie that they’re essential workers and a lot of parents are going to be very very upset if their child can’t return to school because no tests, but other children of essential workers can. But they have to ration tests somehow I guess until they can get more. I’m already bookmarking private test providers, I don’t think we’d be near the top of the priority list for the nhs.

Are teachers classed as key workers for getting hold of tests?

Triangularbubble · 10/09/2020 16:22

Teachers are definitely counted as key/essential workers on tv testing website, it looks like the same list as those eligible for childcare provision in schools during lockdown.

Thank you @Triangularbubble I have had 30 5 year olds breathing all over me the last few days. Much as I love being with them and back in school with my colleagues, genuinely, it's good to know the testing capacity is there for us.

I hope this is the case! I’m a doctor and have had trouble getting tested through work in the past. Would like to get a test if I need to as I don’t want to miss any work. No one should have to wait but I also think key workers should be prioritised.

I think it is the case. 2 of my 6 staff members had to isolate until test results this week. They got tests by turning up in the local walk in centre saying they're key workers.

It's a farm - I'm terrified that this winter is going to be like this week - we can cope with long term absence (I.e yo have Covid. Ok, let's make a month long plan and recruit) or v short term (I.e please cover tomorrow Betty) what we can't do is have 2 staff off for 3/4/5 days on a roundabout system. It will break me and my family.

If this isn't sorted soon it has the potential to affect supply chains.
