Yup as predicted my 6 year has started with a cough.
Are there any tests to be seen anywhere?
Nope.
Have been on the website since 6am this morning, nothing.
The helpline just hangs up on you 'because they are too busy'.
So what's the alternative?.
My 6 year old has 2 weeks off school because there is no tests? It's an absolute shambles.
Of course I'm going to keep looking and checking.
But I know there are three local sites, but they have changed to needing appointments because of the recent government incompetence.
Might try just turning up today and see what happens. It is a complete joke.

I’m in the same position . They update the home test kits at 8am and then the drive thru at 8pm .

I am on day three of trying and managed to book a test for this afternoon . Hopefully I will have the results by tomorrow .

321Backintheroom · 10/09/2020 09:47

My sons school is happy to have him back as long as I can prove it’s a negative result .

Mytho · 10/09/2020 09:48

Yeah I tried booking the home test put in all the details but they said they will let me know if the application was successful.
Not heard anything yet. So not sure if it processed cos she is 6?

@321Backintheroom

Yes but we need a test for that. Gonna try one of the mobile testing ones to see if they will do without an appointment.

Some schools are insisting on the whole isolation period despite a negative result though ... so it may be worth checking with your school

Mytho · 10/09/2020 09:57

No they said she can come back if negative.
They were happy for her to come in today and insisted unless she was continuously coughing she doesnt need to stay away.
She started coughing this morning, not continuously but was fine yesterday and i didnt know if it would get worse as the day went on or not.
I didnt want her sent home and thought wih a new cough will get her tested and it should be ok, and she be back to school on Monday at the latest.
She also has asthma but not needed her inhalers for a few months so randomly gets a cough for a few days which settles. I've restarted her inhaler.
But now stuck in limbo.

Me too. Same here. Trouble is it’s not just us. It’s work as well on both sides. My husband is off today. But what happens tomorrow. And what about the people I work with. They are stuck in limbo now as well. It’s a big huge mess. And all my son has is a cold.

I was notified 20hrs later. My test is going to be delivered at 8pm today and I registered on Wednesday morning.

So I needed a test on Tuesday and it is probably looking like I will get the results earliest Sunday. Confused

So 5 days off work for me! No mention of pay by employers etc...

Contactscontact · 10/09/2020 10:16

Yes-same. And as soon as you decide you need to book a test does that imply you consider the cough a covid symptom and therefore whole household needs to isolate?

felineflutter · 10/09/2020 10:20

Yes.

Zarahaider88 · 10/09/2020 11:01

@Mytho I booked home tests yesterday and the confirmation email came through a few hours later. Worth checking your spam folder. The tests are on the way today being sent by amazon.

dd works in a nursery and was sent home with a cough yesterday, she was lucky enough to get a gp phone apt this morning and has been prescribed antibotics for possible chest infection.
she had to travel across london this morning to a walk in site on the off chance she'd get a test and thankfully has now had one although it was an appointments system.
work understandably won't take her back until she has a negative result, which is right, but there are so many other people who need tests for work return, wages, to pay bills, rent etc, but can't get apts because postcodes are closed to keep the number being tested down and those idiots with no symptons who want a test 'just in case' before i go on holiday, go to tescos etc. selfish bastards.

EDSGFC · 10/09/2020 13:36

I wasn't allowed back to work without a negative test result, even though delays in the system meant that the ten day isolation period ended before the results came back.

They really need to sort the system out because people need to be able to get back to work and school without unnecessary absences.

Usernamealreadyexists · 10/09/2020 13:54

Where are you based? I rocked up to a mobile testing centre in Chelsea with my son today. No queues and you can register using the barcode after the test and so no need to book online beforehand.

Thirtyrock39 · 10/09/2020 15:01

Dh went to a mobile site in nearest city centre (local lockdown hot spot) after days trying on website without an apt - typically at the same time a spot came up at local place and typically cough seems to have magically stopped as soon as got a test !
It's hard doing the right thing when there is such a search for tests though
Just hope results are through before weekend
I think they've had to magic some tests up as there were no slots all day yesterday when I was trying and loads appeared this morning

Kreacheriscleaning · 10/09/2020 15:19

My friend was offered one in five days time in Glasgow. She lives in North Yorkshire.
There is nothing to be had any closer and no postal test available.
It is ridiculous.

Paranoidmarvin · 10/09/2020 16:54

I got one today. Miles and miles away. After hours of driving I ended up somewhere that was empty. No one was there. Just people hanging around.
