How can they know.....

Most transmission is in social settings?

So what if after the new restrictions on social gatherings the R-rate keeps rising?

Feels like they are setting the foundation blocks to blame the general public for any winter wave that may arise.

Christmas cancelled, well that's your fault for having friends round for coffee to keep you sane! Or am I off message here?

Because of track and trace.

Kaktus · 09/09/2020 09:40

Because when you test positive track and trace ask who you have been in close contact with and in what circumstances. Those contacts are then followed up on. From that, they can deduce the situations in which most cases are transmitted.

Re: blaming the public - you better believe it. They're already blaming us for the test shambles - too many people booking tests for no reason apparently. Yeah because it's so much fun taking time off work and driving miles to stick a cotton swab up your nose then stuck in the house until results come. Not their fault at all for not seeing we would need more tests once the schools opened. Ok then. It's all going the way it did before.

So track and trace more effective than is being made out? Interesting. They should say this clearly with data then just to get as large as a percentage of the population on side.

As above, because that is what the evidence points to when there are outbreaks

PinkMacaron · 09/09/2020 09:48

I don't think they're setting the foundations for blaming the general public, I think they're already tiling the roof.

Someone, somewhere, has to be thrown under the bus for their failings - the public generally, young people, people in pubs, scientists, holidaymakers, people on beaches, people at protests, all viable options.
