What’s happening in Bolton to give such a huge rise in cases?

Just that really, any insights from locals?

@Carycy

Problem is the northwest was locked down too soon and now has lockdown fatigue. London was locked down late and therefore developed herd immunity. We should have had more local lockdowns from the start . Those areas that had no/fewer cases when lockdown started will suffer the most as their economies will be hit twice.
I don't agree with some of this. It isn't that NW had lockdown too soon. It is that it was lifted too early ( Andy Burnham said so at the time) before rates had reduced sufficiently so it is likely that it has been grumbling as an epidemic since lockdown began lifting. London did lockdown too late but has nowhere near developed herd immunity. If Londoners don't brake social distancing etc seriously now, they will be facing the same problems as the NW in a month or two's time!
EducatingArti · 09/09/2020 15:53

take not brake

Alex50 · 09/09/2020 16:09

Burnh news comments are interesting, it explains very well why the infections are rising 🙄

Alex50 · 09/09/2020 16:10

Bolton news I meant

x2boys · 09/09/2020 16:14

Doesn't it just @Alex50!

QueenPaws · 09/09/2020 16:30

@Alex50 I haven't even read it and I can probably still play bingo
5g
Microchips in the vaccine
Herd immunity
Only affecting a small percentage
Secretly it's just flu
It's over and people need to get on with their lives
Lock the ECV and elderly away
All a scam
Not wearing a muzzle
I won't be following new rules

....

Alex50 · 09/09/2020 16:33

Yep

x2boys · 09/09/2020 16:35

The government are trying to control us ,is another although why they would choose Bolton beats me ,and people banging on about their human rights 🙄

TenhillPlace · 09/09/2020 16:45

This is because the pub is legally bound to take customers' details for track & trace, and set up systems & protocols that ensure that all patrons maintain social distancing. And can ask people to leave if they breach those guidelines

But they don't do they, the pubs ( Wetherspoons I'm looking at you) certainly don't. Easier to blame Asian families ( who may also be a cause) rather than typical pub using communities or bare it supporting best friend of the government pub owner....

Starisnotanumber · 09/09/2020 17:03

Had the facebook comment I'm not going to give my right number to track and trace.
Cant beat stupid.
To a minor degree I can understand because if you have to isolate for 14 days who will pay the bills.
The government really needs to provide some financial support for self isolaters to give them the means to stop at home and not try to cheat the system and spread the virus

Torvean32 · 09/09/2020 17:14

Transmission isn't through the community as the numbers aren't from the pub/restaurant/cafe type places. Its being spread in households. Too many ppl from too many households in 1 house. Parties and raves are getting the blame in Leeds.

AndromedaPerseus · 09/09/2020 18:07

The London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham which has a similar BAME population to Bolton has cases of average of 21 per 100,000 compared to126 in 100,000 in Bolton.

I’ve been to a 2 different Wetherspoons in very different parts of the country recently and the staff were very insistent on watching you do the track and trace

How much of it is also a feeling of why bother listening to the government? If you are in a town that has been neglected for years and years, where London & government seem so very far away and out of touch, who are perceived as never having done anything for you/where you live, don't feel relevant to your life in any way - then why bother listening to them and follow their rules? Can't there also be an almost insular attitude of "we know better and we'll do what suits us"?
I'm not sure the North/South divide can be entirely discounted as an issue particularly, as people have pointed out upthread, there is a feeling that national decision-making has been done a timescale that suits the London/Southern trajectory of this pandemic, and not what has been happening on the ground in the NorthWest.

AndromedaPerseus · 09/09/2020 18:29

Cake addict that’s is a pertinent point. During April and May the number of deaths in London ensured everyone knew someone who was affected by Covid 19

Do lots of MNers come from Bolton?

QueenPaws · 09/09/2020 18:44

@MyPersona I lived in Horwich for years Grin

Starisnotanumber · 09/09/2020 18:56

Come from bolton grew up there work there but now a few 100m over the boundary.

x2boys · 09/09/2020 19:05

I live in the not far from the town centre ,I grew up in Bury though, I have two Bolton school kids which is a bit of a worry

ItalianHat · 09/09/2020 19:15

Even the café I went to the other day for a takeaway coffee took my details for track & trace.

Carycy · 09/09/2020 19:19

I had definately been very london/south east centric. Supposedly they locked us all down at the same time to make us all feel like we were in this together. What a load of shite!

cakeaddict · 09/09/2020 19:40

Grew up there but moved away, family & friends still there though so have a vested interest still.

EducatingArti · 09/09/2020 19:41

London folk need to make sure they are following the social distance rules otherwise they will end up in more severe lockdown. Levels in the NW were higher when we started to come out of lockdown so we have had a flare up more quickly. The virus hasn't gone away though and infection levels are nowhere near those needed for herd immunity. If SD measures are not adhered to, exponential growth will occur.
The nature of exponential growth is that it bubbles along at low levels for quite a while then suddenly jumps.
You have been warned !

Fatted · 09/09/2020 19:56

I do think the government's entire response has been very London centric. I remember writing this in a post on here back in the beginning and I got told that I was ridiculous. It was obvious when there were hundreds of people dying in London and the grand total of five in Wales. I still don't believe Boris would have implemented a national lockdown if it had happened the other way around, if Manchester had been having the high numbers London was back in March/April time, Manchester would have been put into local lockdown and left to fend for itself.

x2boys · 09/09/2020 21:15

The Government is very London centric about everything ,however that doesn't excuse the ignorance of some people in Bolton ,I'm really unhappy that the actions of a few have affected so many of us .
