Contacted by restaurant who have outbreak

Yesterday I went to a restaurant with my Ddad. Today we got a missed call from them. When we called back, they had an automated message. It said that several of their employees have tested positive for the virus, so they've temporarily closed.

I'm not sure if that means we're now supposed to isolate. I thought that it was the nhs who contacted people to tell them they'd been exposed to the virus, rather than the restaurants themselves.

I went for lunch with a friend a couple of weeks ago and at the entrance, they took both of our names and numbers and also took our temperatures. This restaurant didn't, they just called the number they had for the booking, which was my Ddad's.

Can anyone tell me for definite if we're now supposed to be isolating?

No. You isolate if you are told you are a close contact.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 08/09/2020 21:41

If you have been in close contact with someone confirmed to have it you're supposed to self isolate.

Did the restaurant say whether someone who had it was waiting on your table?

wonkylegs · 08/09/2020 21:47

I have been notified today that I working at an event on the weekend that someone else there has a positive test - I was sent a clear email that was clear about the process to take particular care for the next 10days with hand washing SD & mask wearing and if I or anyone in my family got symptoms to self isolate and get tested. We have been told close contacts will be notified separately along with full details of what to do.

Thank you! They just said that 6 of their staff had tested positive so in theory, that could have been the waiter who handed us the plates, so that would be close contact. I think it should have been made a bit clearer.

The restaurant are supposed to pass your details to Test and Trace, and it’s up to Test and Trace to decide who are close contacts or not, and then they tell those people. So in theory you’re fine if you haven’t heard. In practice, Test and Trace are a bit useless ...

MrsPworkingmummy · 08/09/2020 22:08

Do you want to self isolate OP? Do you have symptoms yourself? My understanding, from working in a school open and fairly busy throughout Covid, is you need to self isolate and get a test only if you are a close contact of an infected (e..g. The husband, wife or immediate family member of) and have been contacted by a GP or Track and Trace. My husband works in a school with confirmed covid cases. He is unwell and had a test today. My own school told me I had to go in until he had a positive result through... It was only then I'd have to self isolate and stay off work.

DeliciouslyFemale · 08/09/2020 22:11

Have you rang the restaurant to check that it’s genuine? Just in case it’s a disgruntled employee.

ncd5785 · 08/09/2020 22:12

@MrsPworkingmummy I don't mind at all if I need to isolate, I just wanted to do the right thing. I've always wfh so as I didn't have any appointments or anything to cancel, it wouldn't cause any problems. I just don't want to go against any guidelines and put other people or at risk by going out unnecessarily to do things I could do another time

ncd5785 · 08/09/2020 22:14

@DeliciouslyFemale it's definitely genuine, there's a message about it on the restaurant's website now

I just thought if something like this happened, there would be a much clearer message given like "you've been in contact with the virus, you must now self isolate" or "but you don't need to self isolate"

I'm in Ireland so maybe it's different. But as far as I know, close contact is counted as 15 mins or more at less than 2m without a mask. Think it's casual contact if you. Are wearing a mask. Could be wrong on that, but where I work, (healthcare) these are the contacts we log. A waiter putting your plate on a table isn't likely to count as a close contact.

AppleKatie · 08/09/2020 22:25

If they’ve got a positive test result TODAY I doubt they were working last night. The way testing is at the moment it’s unlikely, of course doesn’t mean that some of the waiters on last night won’t go on to develop it having caught it from the ones off yesterday but it is another ‘step’ away.

Fairylightsdreamer · 08/09/2020 23:22

If your husband is unwell and is awaiting test results the whole household including you need to isolate with him. It’s only if he’s well and self isolating due to being a close contact that you can carry on as normal unless he then has symptoms.

Fairylightsdreamer · 08/09/2020 23:24

Sorry above post was in reply to @MrsPworkingmummy hope your husbands test result are negative and back soon but you need to self isolate until his results are back as he’s showing symptoms.

MadameBlobby · 08/09/2020 23:29

I wouldn’t isolate unless you are contacted by world beating test and trace and identified as a close contact.
