That Winter isn't going to be as bad as predicted?
Yes, there will be chaos around schools and dealing with the fallout of covid, but generally, am I the only one that thinks the death rate will stay low and that if people get it, it will most likely be the younger ones who who don't even know they have it?

Why do you think that?

Surely if younger people are wandering around without even knowing that they have it, older people are going to catch it. Why won't they end up in hospital or dying this time?

Deaths are low but it’s really hard to know what is coming next.

WEll cases aren't really sky high at the moment. YEs the actual figures show similar levels to before lockdown, but that's mainly because there are so many more tests happening. Previously there were hundreds more people with covid, they just didn't know it as there was no testing. I think figures have got a long way to climb before we reach the pre-lockdown level of actual infection.

Also, as some people are still following the guidelines about social distancing/mask wearing etc, the spread is going to be slower. However, as many others seem to be totally ignoring advice, spread will still happen.

Hmm, I try to stay positive about this generally but hospital cases are creeping up now and cases have recently exploded so I'd think we need to be fairly cautious at the moment.

I'm remaining positive unless the death rates start rising hugely.

The death rate won't be as high as before (fingers crossed), but that's due to better treatment. Also vulnerable people are still shielding themselves and taking better precautions. Cases will rise, no two ways about that. People believe that a low death rate is evidence that Covid has been blown out of proportion. People are tired of rules. People want to go down the pub and get drunk. Unfortunately, these attitudes do not help suppress Covid.

Schools... I think the behaviour of parents out of school is more important than schools themselves. If the parents are lax and blasé about Covid guidance, they'll send their kids into school because 'DDs cough sounds like a normal cold' and 'temperature isn't serious enough for a test', or understandable reasons relating to work... that's how it'll get into schools. Once Covid enters a school, then it's just a matter of time unless it's caught early. I think schools will be stop-start over winter.

Well considering it's only September 8th, whether is pretty decent and the cases are rising already...

I was just reading posts from back in February/March saying similar to you. "It's not that bad, and everyone (except me) is overreacting"

Like I say,I think there will be a lot of disruption and a lot of fall out from the virus but I can't see there being thousands of deaths and lockdowns.
I question whether these positive tests are accurate too.

It's already been questioned whether they are reliable or not.
Either way, I do think that the virus seems less aggressive than it was.

If you look at what happened in Germany during the first peak, they had majority infections in younger people and lots of testing. At the peak they were having around 6000 infections a day and 300 deaths, which was a very low death rate compared to the U.K. But they still had to lock down to stop it growing any bigger.

Things are slightly better now in terms of treatment and survival rate, but at the same time we are entering flu season which puts extra strain on the hospitals.

I would expect the same thing that happened in Germany. High spread amongst young people means high-risk people are extra careful. Then a slow climb in deaths as it spreads gradually to older people, and then some form of lockdown to get it back under control.

I think the number of cases we are seeing now are a fraction of what was happening in March. The deaths started rising gradually and then doubling. I think this is just the beginning for what we are going to see this winter. Hope I'm wrong 😬

Virologists have said the virus hasn't mutated to become less aggressive. It is mainly young that are being infected at the moment from what we can see, so the deaths aren't as many at the moment.

Deaths have started to rise slightly already. I hope it won’t be too bad but I think we’re in for a bumpy ride. No one knows what will happen but try to stay positive. It’ll all be over one day.

Now, now, some people will truly not know what to do with themselves if there's no second wave/tsunami to wet their pants over and buy into greater terror and control.

Winter’s coming and it’s going to be bad, very bad. I’m expecting Corona zombies and white walkers. BUT fear not for we will all be safe because we will be bolted up in our homes with masks on 24/7, ritually washing our hands every 2 seconds and keeping 2m away from our babies so we don’t kill poor granny.

God our government are just so INEPT!!!! 🤯🤬
