I took a test yesterday morning because I woke up with a cough, fever and was feeling sick, I got the negative result through a couple of hours ago.

The email says this:
If you’re not a contact you may return to work if you’ve not had a fever for 48 hours and feel well. Talk to your employer first

I still feel a bit unwell and not sure if it is an asthma flare-up or some kind of bug and under normal circumstances, I would still go out feeling like this. I'm not working right now but I've got a mental health appointment on Wed (non NHS), should I cancel this now?

I would aim to go. It might be worth contacting them to make sure they’re happy to see you, but with a negative covid test if you’re not feeling too ill you should be fine.

Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

I would not go. The email explicitly tells you not to go.

Even in normal circumstances would you be welcome at work with a fever and cough?

Gingerkittykat · 08/09/2020 03:48

Under normal circumstances people would carry on as normal with a cold, I'm not seriously unwell.

I'll email them and ask if they want me to go or not, I've got a feeling it would be best to stay at home though. If I pass on my bug then obviously someone else is going to have to get a test and self isolate till they get the results and it's not really fair to put them through that.

I'd cancel explaining your reasons, the test misses around 30 % of cases so you could still have covid and even if it's just a bogstandard virus as you say if someone picks it up its another person needing to test and isolate.

Gingerkittykat · 08/09/2020 05:43

I didn't know they missed a lot of positive cases, I've sent an email cancelling my appointment and explaining why,

Assuming this is for a counselling type appointment, you could always ask if they would be happy to do a phone or video session instead?

Gingerkittykat · 08/09/2020 06:47

I hate video chat and don't think phone calls are the same so will just reschedule.

I had 2 fake negatives in a month. Now 2 positive antibody tests.
Swab team admitted they weren't sure when to swab.
Perhaps you took your swab too early.
We were recommended about 4 days since symptoms started 🤷🏻‍♀️

yarncakes · 08/09/2020 07:36

Whether it's covid or not, I still wouldn't go. You're unwell, so stay at home.

Gingerkittykat · 08/09/2020 07:53

I never knew that the test was more effective after 4 days, I'll monitor my symptoms and if they don't clear up will book another test.

@labellesusage
What country are you in because that is not the advice, and has never been the advice, in the UK. Tests are thought to be the most effective immediately after the development of symptoms.

In the uk. Swab team swabbed me day 2 of symptoms. Negative. They said they think they did it too early at the time. But things change. Was only going off my experience. 2nd swab day 10 still negative. Month later very positive antibodies

unimaginativeusernamehere · 08/09/2020 16:06

An asthma flare up wouldn't cause a fever so you must be battling a bug of some sort.
I think you've done the right thing rescheduling unless missing the session could cause your mental health to decline?
Take care of yourself, tuck up in bed with a hot drink ThanksCakeBrew
