Test/isolation question

I'm a perfectly intelligent person but I'm struggling to work out what the correct thing to do in this situation. Can anyone help please?

DC1 had a cold over the weekend (snotty nose, no temp). DC2 has now come down with it and has a high temperature.

I understand that I now need to arrange a test for DC2 (which I'm currently unable to do when I try online) and they need to isolate until the result. But is it correct that the rest of us need to isolate too? For 14 days? Even if the test (when we eventually get it) is negative?

Thanks Thanks

No, if the test comes back negative on someone with symptoms then you can come out of isolation

Oh that's so helpful, thank you @dementedpixie
