Surely they can’t keep schools open as normal if cases keep going up like today!

My daughter went back to school last Thursday. She really needed to go as lockdown played havoc with her mental health. She was fine doing her academic work but she is someone who needs the social side of school.

We are a vulnerable family and, with this shitshower of a government, I had no faith that cases wouldn’t rise and I wouldn’t be forced to take her out of school again. But I cannot believe that she has been back 2 days and the jump in cases has been so huge. I honestly expected us to be able to get to half term. Of course deaths are going to rise now. Why wouldn’t we follow the pattern of the other European countries. Add to that the fact that people can’t get tested now and we’re fucked. And I’m so fucking angry and upset about the damage that this is doing.

What are the government going to do? Surely it will be impossible to expect parents to keep sending their children to schools when the death toll is huge again and the ICUs are full.

Kids will get it and will be fine

No child in uk has died

Not one

Stop scaremongering

Kids will get it and may pass it on but they were all in school at peak of virus without so much as a mask so I think they’ll be fine now

You are missing the point that kids will get it and probably be fine but they will potentially transmit it to vulnerable people who will not be fine.

God, even Boris Johnson understood this.

Vinoonasunnyday · 09/09/2020 23:33

Downstairs I agree

I’m 42. I work with 50 staff. I teach FE with 100s. In north west Liverpool which is outbreak area. Yet I don’t know one single person - not only who’s had it - but I don’t know anyone who knows anyone who’s had it!!!

I have 5 friends who work in the nearest 3 hospitals - every single one has said they haven’t met a single covid patent who wasn’t severely ill anyway - as in ‘dying this year ill’

Vinoonasunnyday · 09/09/2020 23:34

Noble then the vulnerable need to take steps to protect themselves

Home school or wear a mask etc

I thought there are a small number of children who have died?

Mumsnet doesn’t represent society

It’s where the worried well congregate to build up each other’s paranoia

In real life no one cares

They’ve had enough

On Twitter tonight - 90% day they’ll ignore latest gov rule 🤷‍♀️ People just aren’t scared enough to comply

Vinoonasunnyday · 09/09/2020 23:38

That 90% was a poll that started last night

Timeforanotherusername · 09/09/2020 23:38

even the Tory Govt and Boris Johnson would get top marks if they were fact checked against Vinoonasunnyday

Vinoonasunnyday · 09/09/2020 23:39

noblegiraffe · 09/09/2020 23:39

The new rules are to protect the vulnerable. People who don’t care if they get it ought to think very carefully about who they might be giving it to.

noblegiraffe · 09/09/2020 23:40

90% of a twatty echo chamber.

Vinoonasunnyday · 09/09/2020 23:43

i don’t think people are being selfish

They’re being realistic

This isn’t going anywhere

Vulnerable should take steps to protect themselves

Those who need to work need to work

Kids who needs to go school should go

The whole country can’t stop forever and vaccine could be another year away

Covid deaths will increase but let’s face it covid seems to have cured everything else like cancer etc so maybe it’s about balance (all non covid deaths have miraculously reduced since last year - funny that isn’t it?)

and you are positively encouraging to break the rules all over this site.

I want as normal a life as possible.

Its not going to happen sadly.

Too many idiots about who are wilfully spreading this horrible virus.

Just a wee bit of common sense and consideration for others would have a positive impact on this country.

How about doing what is right to preserve as many lifes as possible.

I do not meant close schools or restaurants or pubs etc.

I do not mean lock every one away.

I just mean make decisions that won't spread the virus. Don't send kids to school when they have symptoms, no matter what idiots on here say. Don't have house parties and just give a thought for others.

It really ain't that difficult.

noblegiraffe · 09/09/2020 23:44

Vulnerable should take steps to protect themselves

Some people are quite keen to protect the vulnerable. You know, them being family members and friends. Do you have any of those?

Timeforanotherusername · 09/09/2020 23:45

lives

IloveJKRowling · 09/09/2020 23:46

Maybe it's time for 90% of teachers to say that if parents aren't following the rules, they don't feel safe teaching their children and will not come into work.

Especially given there is no SD in schools.

Mind you, twitter is apparently up to 50% russian bots. So not really representative.

Timeforanotherusername · 09/09/2020 23:47

I think there could be Russian bots on this post............

gypsywater · 09/09/2020 23:48

I'm not overly bothered about the risk to myself of catching it. I would feel terrible for spreading it to a vulnerable person tho due to wilful ignorance. Likewise terrible if I ended up taking up an ICU bed and clinical resources ++ as a consequence of breaking some restrictions. That's the nub of it for me. It's the broader picture and social responsibility.

Vinoonasunnyday · 09/09/2020 23:48

The current rules that do what your saying are destroying more lives than they’re saving

Just in different ways

That’s what people don’t get

The rules right now are causing job loses, suicides, cancers and other disease deaths rates are up etc etc

So many kids have been stuck at home neglected and all people give shit about it covid

So no I’m not happy with current rules as current rules are destroying thousands of lives everyday

IloveJKRowling · 09/09/2020 23:54

Pretty much everything is open, and it could stay that way if people just stay 2m apart, wear masks and avoid large gatherings.

I really fail to see how staying 2m away from strangers is making people suicidal (if it is they have bigger problems and need help).

Cancer care will only be paused if covid cases rise, and take up NHS capacity, which will ONLY happen if people STOP obeying the SD / mask rules.

So all those people saying 'just get on with life as normal' are ACTIVELY putting at risk cancer care. They're also the ones who will cause more lockdowns.

Timeforanotherusername · 09/09/2020 23:55

We can't undo the last 6 months.

They were shit and kids were an afterthought.

I am angry about the way the government have handled things.

But surely then life we have now is better than lockdowj?

I am terrified that schools may close again as I felt it was damaging to my children.

If we let this virus run out of control again then there is a reasonable chance it could happen.

We can still do most of what we have always done so the health and wellbeing of my chidlren are improving.

Me being out and about and spending my money is helping the economy. Primark for example reported really strong sales after lockdown.

If we end up in lockdown again, then the impact of that will be even more devastating than what we have now.

Its shit for so many people. I can't comprehend why people like you seem determined to make it worse.

Vinoonasunnyday · 09/09/2020 23:56

Places aren’t all open
Majority of those open are running at reduced capacity with many staff on furlough

All these will lose jobs next month

Distancing means less customers/work so less profit

So job cuts

Do you think all these companies who took loans will just keep all their staff after Xmas? Even Boris admits upto 30% of workforce could be out of work! That’s literally millions!!!

Havent you seen news - companies are getting rid of 1000s every single day!

gypsywater · 09/09/2020 23:59

@IloveJKRowling Exactly, I dont get the logic of these posters/people at all - their actions are fighting against what they say they want?
