So has your DCs school closed again due to positive tests?

I live in a area with a low-ish infection rate, but two local schools announced today they are closing year groups for the next two weeks due to staff testing positive.

Is this happening nationally?

Wow, whereabouts in the country are you @Juanmorebeer?

blue25 · 08/09/2020 18:56

Yes in Surrey. Hearing of cases in Kent and Bromley too.

Aridane · 08/09/2020 19:11

Is there somewhere you can find out which schools have had part closures?

MarshaBradyo · 08/09/2020 19:12
@MarshaBradyo it’s just a joke. Basically I’ve started with the older year groups - made them a learning pack based on lesson content and then obviously I’m teaching too.

Luckily during lockdown I got a lot of planning done but my goodness, I’ve just sat down after doing 7-6.30 sat at my laptop with tiny breaks (to go on MN and make tea obviously!)

It’s bloody lonely too..

School said we are not allowed back in even if we have a negative test. I’m clearly fine but it’s so frustrating. Feel so sorry for the kids.
Oh right I did think it was a bit much ;

It’s so hard on everyone

Not my dd school and only heard from a neighbour.
But apparently Wigan have a school closed already.

x2boys
Not sure if you've heard this.

Devlesko · 08/09/2020 19:21

If we can get to half term I will be surprised

If we get to half term, I'll show my bare ass in the street.
Not going to happen.

FlamingoAndJohn · 08/09/2020 19:22

They won’t close the schools again, no way. The cost of the economy is far too high.

Juanmorebeer · 08/09/2020 19:22

Talking about Leicestershire @tisaginthing I live over the border but I work nearby

AHintOfStyle · 08/09/2020 19:24

Into our 4th week here and no issue s yet at either school.

DonLewis · 08/09/2020 19:27

Ds in y11 was sent home on Monday with the rest of his year group bubble (180 kids). They'd already closed to year 8 on Sunday night. And any child on a specific school bus too. So over 400 kids at home for 2 weeks. They'd only been back at school 2 days!

Primary all fine. Touch wood.

Locally, lots and lots of schools have year groups or bubbles at home self isolating after another pupil tested positive.

iolaus · 08/09/2020 19:31

Both my kids schools have been fine - however 5 other schools in my county has (neighbouring county just gone into local lockdown romours are we aren't far behind them - they have stopped care home visiting again though)

hopelesschildren · 08/09/2020 19:31

I appreciate SD is impossible in schools but wish school would not organise activities that involve students standing close together in front of the classroom.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 08/09/2020 19:35

The twitter site that was mentioned yesterday had 159 as the school figure for England alone this afternoon. Maybe the government should give daily figures when they announce case figures.

FreyaB84 · 08/09/2020 19:43

We've been back for 4 weeks now and have had no cases at all yet (secondary).

It's not that simple. Anything is possible, maybe not likely, but possible.
TenhillPlace · 08/09/2020 20:51

Realistically they might have to close some schools/lots of schools if there are no staff.
Children can't be there alone ....

They will do that, but I don’t think there will be a nationwide shutting of schools. It’ll only be school staff getting ill and they are just winning lefty pinkos so that doesn’t matter. So long as the economy keeps going.

For example you can still go to pubs and spend money but you, from Monday, can’t meet more than 6 friends in your house.

We've been back 4 days and already a case now.
AlphaJura · 09/09/2020 00:27

Not my kids school but a school in the same town, opposite has had to close a year group due to cases in pupils and teachers.

Elladisenchanted · 09/09/2020 01:07

I'm a teacher. I'm self isolating now with symptoms. Going for a test tomorrow. Getting a test was a nightmare. Been back in for not even a week :(
The school are definitely assuming teachers will be in and out of isolation and we've tried to make plans but it's still a huge logistical challenge.

EducatingArti · 09/09/2020 07:44

32 schools in Greater Manchester have groups of students isolating.

Blimey, it was just over 60 on Monday.

Year 7 and 9 is now closed. Child sent in last week with a "cold" school tested and sent them home and their sibling home. So far 9 positives between the two years.
This will potentially close the school again as many in the school do have siblings, never mind their parents work in the same school.

InYerFace · 09/09/2020 09:22

We're in an area with low infection rates. DS2's primary school is fine, but DS1's secondary school has had two confirmed cases amongst staff (one teacher, one in an admin role) so two Year 7 classes are now in isolation, along with multiple teachers. But they're still open! However if more teachers have to isolate that may change.
