I live in a area with a low-ish infection rate, but two local schools announced today they are closing year groups for the next two weeks due to staff testing positive.

Is this happening nationally?

@TenhillPlace

when areas of high deprivation suffer from repeated school closures Is that rather than more affluent areas?

Does data show this is the case? Does COVID choose areas of high dep? Is that possible, what is the reasoning?

Many of the areas with the current highest levels of cases per 100,000 also have higher levels of deprivation. The graph is based on overall figures for August, so the cases per 100,000 is for a whole month rather than a week before anyone starts panicking.

(Mass) school closures have not started so no precise link to school closures can be made, but it would seem logical that they are more likely to be in the areas with higher case levels,

Not D’s’ school, secondary, but only back for three days

Primary back tomorrow

MarshaBradyo · 06/09/2020 22:20

Ds

ShinyGreenElephant · 06/09/2020 22:24

Not my DDs current school but her old primary is having to isolate y6 pupils and staff from Monday after a positive test result this morning. Only been back 2 days

Shieldingending · 06/09/2020 22:29

3 in my area that I know of personally have bubbles closed already (north west)

Pugsley87 · 06/09/2020 22:30

That's us back 3 weeks and no issues

FlamingoAndJohn · 06/09/2020 22:38

A school in the next town has closed due to 5 teachers testing positive. It says they will open again on Tuesday but I don’t see how they can really.

AntiHop · 06/09/2020 22:42

If a school bubble is sent home, does the family need to isolate too?

CallmeAngelina · 06/09/2020 22:47

No, not according to the DfE standard advice letter.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2020 22:47

No, only if symptoms develop in your own child.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 06/09/2020 22:49

Three localish schools - two for cases amongst pupils, one for a member of staff. Only returned on Thursday.

pushkinsinsanity · 06/09/2020 22:59

Not yet.

RevolutionRadio · 06/09/2020 23:18

I've seen 5 or 6 schools nearby have had a pupil confirmed positive today. Mix of primary and secondary not sure of the whole years from each one are isolating.

3 are in a town on the watchlist. 2 are in different neighbouring councils.

Fairylightsdreamer · 06/09/2020 23:30

One of the schools in my town has had a positive case today, whole year group to self isolate. Has only been open two days and not in a deprived area.

Pesimistic · 07/09/2020 05:32

One school in haverhill closing as 5 teachers tested positive

CKBJ · 07/09/2020 06:13

No reopened until this week think it will only be time due to the lack of SD-no blame on schools 100% blame on the government for serious lack of foresight

CKBJ · 07/09/2020 06:13

*Not reopened

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/09/2020 22:02

Day 1 back in school.
Minimal corona virus concerns but we did have the bomb squad in 😬😲

RoobyMyrtle · 07/09/2020 22:21

There is a positive case in sixth form in the Sheffield private school Birkdale.

Aridane · 08/09/2020 08:13

@RoobyMyrtle - it’s now x3 cases (started off as one). Whole sixth form is self isolating

IfYouCantSeeMyMirrors · 08/09/2020 09:00

Someone has mentioned a DofE letter saying how self-isolation works for children and their family. Does anyone know exactly what that letter says? (I'm thinking that while ideally children who are self-isolating will stay at home, that will simply not be feasible for some parents if other children need to be taken to and from school and so on.)

Geesus68 · 08/09/2020 09:08

Ds school unaffected so far but it’s a large primary(90 in his cohort) and lots of local schools and nurseries starting to have positive tests. As well as pubs/cafes etc. Lack of local testing availability is causing concern too.

We are in the north east and it currently feels like a matter of time before a local lockdown comes into force. I’m due back to uni next week, mostly online but a 2 hour session face to face which feels like it’s been timetabled to justify fees/have a catch up. I’m hesitant to even go tbh

JacobReesMogadishu · 08/09/2020 09:11

One class has been sent home for 2 weeks as teacher tested positive. Not even been back a week yet.

Legoandloldolls · 08/09/2020 09:22

Nothing yet near me but they haven't even been back for a week yet.

If we can get to half term I will be surprised! I'm still trying to cram life into every second before it all goes TU again. I want school to stay open desperately and I'm.fairly chilled. However even when I was trying to distance myself another mum came and sat 1 foot away from.me to chat the mum I was trying the stand 2m from. The other parents are also not standing where they was asked any more as we couldn't stay even 1m apart at our designated holding pen 🤣

Its carnage in every sense but at least the teachers are hiding inside and we arent allowed within 5m of them.

We shall see. I'm finding it best to keep expectations extremely low. Fingers crossed!

Legoandloldolls · 08/09/2020 09:23

Onna side note are the Gov still doing track and trace? I haven't left my number anywhere since early August?
