Conspiracy theories....

I’m feeling quite frankly terrified at the moment. An ex colleague (so you would think someone with a modicum of intelligence as she works in a school) has sent me a video. It’s 8 minutes of misinformation, conspiracy theory and out right lies aimed at persuading people to avoid Covid testing and vaccination. The fact that this is circulating among supposedly intelligent people scares me more than the virus....

@itsgettingweird Fair points, but no medicine or vaccine is without any side effects and those side effects could take years to show up. Personally I will take my chance in catching Covid instead, as for most people it will be a very mild illness if they don't have underlining health problems. Although I'm not judging those that do take the vaccine, as we are all free to make up our own minds and for those with health problems, the vaccine is perhaps the only way they can return to some kind of normal life.

derbygerbil you have hit the nail on the head with saying some people need to believe in absolutes. Also, some people see the complete worst in everyone to the point that it shadows the good and the normal. Like they are naturally suspicious and mistrustful of people. Someone close to me falls into this category, and she is far from unintelligent/uneducated. She is led by her mistrustful perspective and it interferes with her critical thinking.

9/11 wasn't a terror attack though. There was no plane...!

SallySeven · 08/09/2020 23:51

Surely it's Russians on social media running this?

Or have I just become part of a conspiracy theory myself!

SallySeven · 08/09/2020 23:53

I thought of this because I'd read that e Russia had stoked up anti vax disinformation previously.

Why do people keep posting this 🤨

Research is showing long term, and sometimes permanent, devastating effects on the body, even for those who are asymptomatic.

It's not a case of being fit and healthy and you're over it FFS.

@SentientAndCognisant Sorry for the delay replying, I only just got myself calmed down enough to tackle the subject again. I am OK now, don't know what came over me, really. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Flowers

I do know vaccination isn't mandatory here (thankfully) and I don't believe it should be. Yes when you start to think about it, how would it work if it was? Although rather than strapping people down it would more likely be the withdrawal of various privileges, so that people would be pressurised into doing it. I am past a lot of that as I am housebound and don't work, nor do I travel. But that would be one way to put pressure on those who don't want to comply.

This shit is hard enough as it is without people preying on those who are vulnerable in other ways

Exactly, and yet those people are the ones saying governments are trying to scare us into complying. But conspiracy theorists are trying to scare us into NOT complying!

9/11 wasn't a terror attack though. There was no plane...!

....

Tell that to the people who actually were there when it happened, either in the building and escaped, or saw it from a neighbouring building!!

SentientAndCognisant · 09/09/2020 21:47

@CrunchyCarrot I understand your anxious. I really need to say there will not be a mandatory vaccination programme
Really think about it, who’d administer a forced vaccination?
Some individuals will always be exempt because of contraindications
What privilege withdrawn?again who monitors reports and enforces that

To be honest the govt couldn’t initiate compulsory vaccinations or monitor compliance .Too big a task, The mechanics of it are too onerous . The morality of it is problematic
Think about it, the struggled to coordinate big tasks eg Procurement of PPE
There is inAdequate Track and trace

You are guessing unlikely scenario and scaring yourself in the process
