So I have a sore tickly throat. I am coughing occasionally but not continuously. What is the proper definition for continuous cough. I'm unsure whether to get tested.

Mine was really really sporadic, a family member mocked me for saying it might be covid, but it was! Get checked for sure.

NHS definition:

a new, continuous cough– this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

A good question. My in-laws have come to visit today. One has a cough which kinda fits the guidelines along with a cold. Probs just a cold but I’ve got a vulnerable mum. So I’m really not impressed. She’s not coughing lots in an hour nor coughing fits as such.. but she’s coughing just the once at a time on & off since she arrived.. think I’ll be shipping her off for a test tomorrow, I can’t risk it with my mum!

I got sick in mid-March (untested, but we're talking weeks of low-grade fever, breathless climbing the stairs, exhaustion and other unpleasant symptoms I shan't go into, so draw your own conclusions). DH and DS also got sick. In our case the cough was very mild and marginal - a tickly, annoying cough at the start, found that I coughed more late in the day after a few weeks, presumably my lungs trying to get rid of all the crap. I would get tested if I were you.

That sort of cough is also coronavirus. I
Know 5 people who had covid and only one had a hacking cough. 4 had intermittent mild cough.
