Positive test- symptoms

If you've had a positive test what were your symptoms? How did they develop? How long did they last?

I recently tested positive for covid. I don't have any of the main symptoms but I am breathless and a bit dizzy. I'm worried my symptoms will get worse and terrified of dying. The anxiety its causing is probably making the breathlessness worse! But I guess I'm wondering if anyone started with mild symptoms but ended up in hospital/seriously ill?

I can't help but get well soon. Hopefully you have a mild form.

Try not to panic, the vast majority of people have it mild.
I had Covid in July and I was terrified but I recovered fine and my symptoms stayed fairly mild. Mine began with a slightly dry cough then the next day my temperature was raised, although still not considered high as it didn’t go above 37.8. I had one day of a raised temperature then it went back to normal but I developed a cough and my taste and smell went. That prompted me to order a test and it came back positive. The cough was wet at first but became dry and I had a dull headache. I did lie awake at night worrying and making my heart race but in hindsight I’ve had worse illnesses before and worse coughs.

The worst thing was not being able to taste or smell as it was like someone had just switched it off entirely, I couldn’t smell bleach, smoke or anything at all. I had the cough for about 6 days and I lost my sense of taste/smell for 9 days before it began to come back. Once it began to return, it was back to normal quite quickly.
I hope you feel better soon Smile

I've just had a positive test. Only symptom has been a sore throat. Been a bit tired but nothing else. Temperature normal. I'm on day 4.

KnobChops · 03/09/2020 07:33

I had a mild temp (37.8) and felt a bit achy and tired. Went to bed early and felt fine the next day. A week later I felt short of breath walking on a gradient, that lasted about a week but gradually improved. Then lost some (not all) sense of taste and smell which lasted for a few weeks. No cough. My antibody test 4 months after my symptoms was positive.

I would get seen if the breathlessness becomes any worse or you get a continuous fever.

StarsHollow77 · 03/09/2020 19:44

I've been tested positive following a holiday a week ago. First symptom was dry ,tickly cough (not continuous though) , then next morning I woke up with a fluey feeling washing over me , I had chills, absolute worst headache , extreme fatigue, clamminess, and body aches. Improved by the evening. Interestingly- NO fever on any days.
Day 3 -Nothing !
Day 4-Not much..gastro episode in the evening.
Day 5- Congested nose, sneezing, allergy like feeling/ lethargy. Loss of taste and smell- sudden!
Day 6- More of the same, spaced, dazed, weak...odd cough. Feeling low
Day 7- same as day before, with more sneezing.

Feeling fed up a bit now. Had anxiety one night that things will take a turn for the worse. Feeling like a leper.
Ashamed I got it, cant tell many people. Feel I will be judged for not being careful enough. My 4 year old has it too, no symptoms. Rest of my family is negative, so I worry about them also.

Emotional rollercoaster. Really missing my taste buds . Everything I eat tastes like air

How are you all today?

Jontysmum · 03/09/2020 20:22

I'm day 5 now. Stuffy nose and bit of a sneezy nose but nothing else. Have had lots of hot showers and watched tv a lot. Nobody else seems to be ill.

Jontysmum · 05/09/2020 13:26

@StarsHollow77 how are you feeling now?

Bol87 · 05/09/2020 13:31

@StarsHollow77 - why on Earth are you ashamed of catching it?! It’s pretty easy to catch.. are you ashamed of catching colds or stomach bugs?! Would be ashamed of catching flu?! Honestly, do not ashamed.

Candyflossrainbow · 05/09/2020 14:53

I thought sneezing and blocked noses were not a symptom? That’s what they keep telling us.

Jontysmum · 05/09/2020 15:46

@Candyflossrainbow I think all bets are off with symptoms. I'm day 7 now and if I hadn't tested I would have thought I had a sinus infection at this stage

StarsHollow77 · 05/09/2020 16:14

@Jontysmum Im feeling fine, thank you- day 9 for me. Only symptom left is the horrible no smell&taste. Me head feels like its insulated in cotton wool a bit, if that makes sense. All senses are off. But other than that, I feel normal.

@Bol87 -I know it's silly, right? But I do feel it. I think people will judge us for going on holiday etc. Thank you for being kind though.

I have a question if anyone can tell me what to do ?
I'm currently on day 9 symptoms, isolating 12 days, my daughter the same. We are both mild (me) and almost asymptomatic (4year old), and we were going to finish isolating on Monday if still without symptoms.
She's supposed to be starting school on the 10th.

Now, my teen boy started showing symptoms last night. He obviously picked it up from one of us. He will do 10 days from now.
My partner is still completely fine , no symptoms whatsoever. But obviously we are all under 1 roof together, so that could change.

So my question is, can my daughter and I still end our isolation as planned as we are effectively on the other side now , or can we not now my son is newly infected ? I called 111 they couldnt give me an answer, they said they will check and call me back. I just dont know what to do.
What are the rules? He's obviously picked it up from us so its the same virus/strain etc. Can we be freshly re infected from him again? I dont think I can bare another 2 weeks indoors!!!
What do you all think?

SummerHouse · 05/09/2020 16:22

You don't have to repeat isolation if you have had it but anyone newly infected starts isolation period from day one of their symptoms.

LatinforTelly · 05/09/2020 16:39

Yes @StarsHollow77, you can end your isolation but your teen son has to isolate for his full time from the beginning of his symptoms. There was a leaflet with a diagram showing exactly this.

How can 111 not know the rules - it's bizarre. It's complicated enough for the rest of us, but they should know!

LatinforTelly · 05/09/2020 16:43

I think with-symptom isolation is now 10 days not 7.

FallingOffTheBed · 05/09/2020 16:44

Did anyone have alot of gastro? A colleague has gone for a test this morning and she had major gastro and temperature spikes. But that is it mainly I hear.

StarsHollow77 · 05/09/2020 16:44

Thanks @SummerHouse that's a what I thought

StarsHollow77 · 05/09/2020 16:50

Thank you @LatinforTelly
@FallingOffTheBed i had 3 gastro episodes, so yes i would say so. Especially combined with a temperature spike. Tell your friend to get tested. If online testing service is still playing up (giving you places miles away) just go to your nearest one and they will sign you up in person and test you
