Track and trace - outdoor meet ups

Can anyone answer this about track and trace, what are the circumstances people would have to isolate if someone was COVID positive?

if you met people outside and stayed over 2m away from them the whole time does this count as ‘contact’? You didn’t wear masks but didn’t touch any of the same things and used hand gel regularly

If it was in a garden at a BBQ or something then I’d expect to self isolate.

mosscarpet · 01/09/2020 11:33

less than 2m, for more than 15 minutes without PPE (masks)

Menora · 01/09/2020 11:38

It was in a park so a massive area not a garden. All sat 2m apart

Small DC did go close to the adults at times this was my one concern. No touching but passed closer than 2m but for less than a minute or so, not prolonged contact. You know when DC get too close and then called away?

adults did not go close to each other at all, and nothing was shared like food or drink

The adult with symptoms is me - I’ve had a test this morning and family are asking what to do

It doesn't sound like it counts as close contact so I'd have thought they can just carry on as normal. Maybe wait and see what the test results are? I hear they aren't taking long, I know a few people recently who have had every symptom but have tested negative so chances are you're fine.

Strictly speaking and according to the guidelines they don't have to isolate, but you could tell them to do what they think is right.

Augustbreeze · 01/09/2020 13:08

This page says anyone in yr bubble should isolate until you get test results. This assumes you have at least one of the three main symptoms.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/nhs-test-and-trace-if-youve-been-in-contact-with-a-person-who-has-coronavirus/

NHS T&T also defines close contact here:

"If you have had any close contact with anyone other than members of your household. We are interested in in the 48 hours before you developed symptoms and the time since you developed symptoms. Close contact means:

•	having face-to-face contact with someone less than 1 metre away (this will include times where you have worn a face covering or a face mask)

•	spending more than 15 minutes within 2 metres of someone

•	travelling in a car or other small vehicle with someone (even on a short journey) or close to them on a plane"

The people I was with are not in my bubble

I suppose the answer is not clear really as no masks were worn, and the within 2 meters part!

I had a temperature and felt unwell

If they were within 2 meters of you the children will have to self isolate. Depending on their ages (and therefore the ability of the children to socially distance from the parents) it may not be necessary for the adults to do so if they didn't come within 2 meters.

Lemons1571 · 01/09/2020 20:17

@StatisticalSense the children would have to be within 2m for 15 minutes or more though? Not just a minute or so.

Menora · 01/09/2020 21:01

It was less than a minute for sure. Nowhere near 15

Still waiting for results so that will be the ultimate decider really also I might be able to ask track and trace what they think

I feel like this is a bit of a grey area

It may not be in the guidance, but if I'd knowingly been close to someone who had tested positive, whether 2 minutes or 15 minutes, i would want to isolate because I would feel awful passing it on.. it is different in a restaurant where you don't know unless contacted.

I wouldn't isolate though until the results came back.

Augustbreeze · 01/09/2020 23:46

But if they were closer than 1m for any length of time they're a close contact, therefore should isolate....

Menora · 02/09/2020 07:54

Thankfully it’s negative
But it’s made me think a lot about possible spread!

I didn't realise they would only contact people you'd been near in the 48 hours before symptoms and during symptoms. I thought they went back 2 weeks! Confused
