ONS Coronavirus study - anyone had positive test result?

We are part of the ONS Coronavirus study where we get tested every so often. So far the tests have thankfully all been negative. No one has ever contacted us to tell us this but I assumed that someone would have told us if it was positive.

We had a test on Saturday and I have got a bad cold and now have developed a cough. The results are not back at my dr yet and I wondered whether I would have heard by now if my result was positive? Might the Bank Holiday have delayed things? Has anyone had a positive result from this study and how long did the results take to come? Did your GP call you or someone else?

Thank you in advance Smile

Ohhhh thank you OP! We just started the ONS study last week and had our first test, I was wondering why we hadn't heard anything after several days!

Hi @PoisoningPigeons. Yes I was led to believe that we would be told our results after every test and I phoned our GP after the first one to check. It was negative and so I just assumed that if we didn’t hear then it was negative.

I will try again tomorrow but am sure it will be negative. Fingers crossed anyway Grin.

I do enjoy being part of the study and the vouchers are very handy!

Yes apparently your GP contacts you if you test positive otherwise assume it’s negative.

Thanks @TragicRabbit. Yes I am now assuming test was negative as presumably they would send any positive test results as a matter of urgency. Even with the Bank Holiday my GP should have had time to contact me by now Smile. Hopefully my cold will go away soon!

One of my colleagues is also taking part in the study. He has had all negative tests and never heard anything back. Last week he was contacted because he’d tested positive, he had no symptoms either.

Have you now had to be tested? (If you were in the work place with him, obviously not if. WFH 🤣)
Farlow · 01/09/2020 18:20

Our paths haven’t crossed at work so I’ve not had to be tested luckily.

Cityzen74 · 01/09/2020 18:48

Gosh @Farlow that must have been a shock for him. Glad he heard though so he could self isolate etc.
