How many tests /isolations do you think you will need by half term?

In April dd2 had a temp by the saturday after half term

By Apr we would have had about 5 tests as a family

In 2019 sept to dec
We would again have had at least 5.

Also people tend not to get symtoms on the same day so for eg in dec dd2 got a temp mon then by thurs i had a fever then dd2 a cough. So even if dd2 tested neg so could have gone back by thurs then i would have to get tested and us all be back isolating. And potentially 4 trips to testing centres
The gov will run out of tests and bubbles will continue.

Either none or hundreds!

cologne4711 · 31/08/2020 16:23

I think the problems will start after October half term. It's a bit chilly at the moment, but the weather is generally still pretty decent until the middle of October. From then on, all the bugs start to circulate and if you have schools panicking every time someone sneezes, I doubt there will be many people left in school at all - staff or pupils.

Devlesko · 31/08/2020 16:26

None, we either get it or we don't.
Can't be doing with it now, tbh.
We're being conned.

ohthegoats · 31/08/2020 16:34

Oct - Feb will be the issue.

BanditsBum · 31/08/2020 16:42

well apparently Covid testing trebled in Scotland during the first 2 weeks if school being back, putting so much pressure on the sercice that the government have had to step in and reiterate that testing should only be for the main covid symptoms and not every runny nose/sore throat/sore tummy as schools seemed to be insisting on.

twinkletoesimnot · 31/08/2020 16:43

@Devlesko

So if your child is sent home you will isolate rather than test??

Just curious......

I think it could potentially be very difficult. I teach in a primary, then I have one child at a different primary and 2 in high school.......

That's a lot of contacts.

twinkletoesimnot · 31/08/2020 16:44

I agree with @ohthegoats

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/08/2020 16:54

None if things go as they normally do. Neither DS nor I ever get ill. Probably the only way we will need a test is if someone around us tests positive.

Timeforanotherusername · 31/08/2020 17:05

Unless there is a positive test in their class probably none.

They get fevers rarely, and never really had coughs.

Its been a long time since my eldest has had time off school.

If it were 4 years ago, we wouldn't leave house. Youngest spiked a fever at least once a week. Often unexplainable and away as quick as it came.

Witchend · 31/08/2020 17:28

If ds does his normal 1-2 temperatures a week through winter, normally due to ear infections, then he might be looking at a huge number. I was tempted to order some to have in reserve Grin

I expect the rest of us to not need them. Although dd2 can get ill, it tend to be migraines.

Bluewavescrashing · 31/08/2020 17:29

I had symptoms at the end of Feb but tests weren't available then. We all isolated at home for 14 days.

Luckily none of us have had symptoms since.

IncidentsandAccidents · 31/08/2020 17:37

We tend to have quite a few coughs and temperatures in our house over winter! I hope that test results are provided quickly so that the dc can get back to school as soon as they're feeling well again. I'm also hoping there may be fewer winter bugs going around than usual with all the hand washing and hygiene measures at school - fingers crossed!

Littlecaf · 31/08/2020 17:37

Mine are 2 & 5. 2 year old gets temperature every time he has a cold. So far we’ve had two tests since June. Obviously both negative. DS5 doesn’t get to get I’ll except standard colds going round school so probably won’t need one unless he’s really ill. I expect we’ll end up getting tested at least once this half term which is great since they’ve just shut down our local testing centre.

Toontown · 31/08/2020 17:48

Well with dickheads saying they will neither test or isolate it will be a whole lot more time of school as the virus will spread more.

Pugdoglife · 31/08/2020 17:51

Lots! Oldest child never gets ill, younger two are little germ factories and with asthma they always suffer coughs.

itsgettingweird · 31/08/2020 18:00

Depends on the cough and breathlessness thing!

Still not completely cough free from when I had it in March! Not continuous but easily agitated.

Plus I've had abnormal uterine bleeding for 9 weeks before they stopped it and am horrendously anaemic and therefore get breathless quite easily!

If school keep insisting I isolate and test this could be a term if not much work!

I'm exaggerating! I was in from after Easter once I recovered and they didn't say anything about me coughing then!

Triangularbubble · 31/08/2020 18:03

Lots. It is what it is and preferable to just staying home entirely.

UselessTrees · 31/08/2020 18:17

I'm fretting a bit about this today. No car, so if DC get symptoms they will be off for at least a week at a time while waiting for test kits/results. We might get stuck in an endless loop of isolation.

Shitfuckoh · 31/08/2020 18:27

@UselessTrees
Also no car here & had the same thought.

What do you mean by this?

IncidentsandAccidents · 31/08/2020 19:14

Does anyone know if schools will have supplies of tests to give to families who need them? That would at least speed things up a bit...

lockdownalli · 31/08/2020 19:20

Let's be honest, it's going to be constant disruptions and the number of cases will climb again.

There will be children who think it's a great idea to !have a cough and feel awful," knowing they can get plenty of time off school once the novelty wears off!

I hope schools have sufficient budget for the amount of supply teachers they will need with teachers having to isolate too.

Kaktus · 31/08/2020 19:25

No idea. Last year I don’t think either of mine were ill (with a temp) until November ish. DC1 hasn’t had a temperature or cough this year (in school until end of March obviously then for 6 weeks before the summer holidays). DC2 had a high temp and cough when DH and I had Covid so assuming she’s had it, but think that’s the only bout of illness she’s had this year.
So could go either way really. Assuming the extra hygiene measures at school plus the fact that their extra curricular activities mostly haven’t resumed may mean they’ll pick up fewer bugs overall.

Kaktus · 31/08/2020 19:25

Ours does, not sure how many though.
Keepdistance · 31/08/2020 19:26

Will supply really go in if teacher SI?

The issue is KW wont be able to work if we run out of tests.
So teachers etc will be off the 14d if their kid has a cough/temp
