How would Track & Trace work after a restaurant visit?

Went to a pub yesterday. Ate indoors in a room/ area with four other tables. Walked through the pub to use the loo and leave. Came into contact (briefly) with two different staff members.

It was all clean with good precautions etc.

But I just wondered how it would work if, say, someone who had been in the same room as us tested positive next week for Covid?

Who would be contacted and asked to isolate?

  • only people at their table/in their group?
  • people at other tables in the same room?
  • everyone who visited the pub yesterday lunchtime?
  • the staff who served them/ all staff?

I can't seem to find the details on this anywhere?

Here in Italy you have to leave your address, telephone number and ppt number.
I've read numerous threads on MN though where people have said they would lie if asked to do the same.

We’re doing t&t through work. We would contact anyone who was in the same space as you at the same time.

How would you know @Farlow? Anywhere we have been hasn’t been taking names and addresses. It’s really weird.

Divoc2020 · 30/08/2020 14:11

Oh yes, everywhere I've been here in the UK has a QR code to scan and leave contact details (name/phone number).

Just wondered how many people would be called if someone subsequently tested positive?

The only place I've been its voluntary so its clearly not going to work

We’ve been really strict with taking full details and recording the time they arrive and leave. I know some places aren’t great at doing it but thankfully my employer is taking it seriously. We can’t force people to leave their details but if they aren’t willing to we won’t allow them in.

I've been to a fair few coffee shops/ restaurants (pub style) over the last month. It is not policed anywhere I've been. Most pubs had tables spaces out and hand sanitiser and the track and trace was voluntary. Most didn't even ask us. There is a QR code or a book to write in.

It won't work unfortunately.

Also, in a great big room I feel the only risk is if the people I am sat with tests positive or the member of staff cooking my food. Other than that, I don't know why id need to isolate!? Yes I use the toilet but I have had to use public toilets and service station which I feel is a similar risk. I obviously would isolate. But it just seems such a minimal risk if you aren't near people. I am always careful to keep my distance from others and the tables are cleaned before we sit!

They would know where you were sitting by the table number.

They would not contact you if someone at the other end of the restaurant developed covid because the risk is being within 2 metres for 15 minutes. You will not get covid or pass it on by walking past someone on the way to the loo.
