Vomiting

I woke up this morning after a restless night feeling really nauseous, and subsequently threw up. I know from Google that vomiting can be a symptom of covid, and that it can occasionally be the only one, but there are obviously many other potential causes. I think it's most likely that I just didn't digest my food properly!

I can see that I don't need to get a test as I don't have any of the hallmark symptoms - no cough, no fever and I can still taste/smell. I will obviously stay at home for 48 hours anyway, as I would with any case of D&V, but presumably, as long as I don't develop any other symptoms, I don't need to self-isolate for any longer than that?

Have been quite anxious about covid as I'm in a more vulnerable group, but ventured into town the other day for the first time in 6 months. Was really careful with mask wearing, hand washing, distancing etc, but now feeling paranoid that I might have caught it. Please talk me down!

Couldn’t read and not reply. You very likely have a “regular” sickness bug that under normal circumstances you wouldn’t have concerned yourself with. Remember everything that made people ill before Covid is still out there. You’re are right you don’t need a test unless you go on to develop any of the 3 symptoms. Rest up, I swear by lemonade with a teaspoon of sugar and plain toast. Hope you feel better soon

Thank you CKBJ. I'm sure you're right. Have cancelled plans for today and will rest.

I have been coughing lots in the last 10 mins but think it's probably psychological.Blush I definitely didn't have a cough before I threw up. Obviously, if it persists, I'll get a test, but I think it's just my brain going into overdrive mode!

Might you be pregnant?

You sound much too anxious, you need to take care of yourself and try to relax. It is advisable to avoid getting covid if possible, but even if you have it there's a very high chance you'll be fine. Don't have anything acidic, warm camomile tea and toast or cream crackers help for me.

Honey will calm your throat if it's sore from vomiting.

AlexaShutUp · 30/08/2020 07:59

Thank you MRex. Definitely not pregnant.

The rational part of me tells me that you're right, and I'll probably be fine even if it is covid, but I have been really anxious about this whole thing since the start. Odd, because I'm not usually a worrier. Then I was finally managing to get a little bit of normality back, albeit very carefully, and suddenly I'm sick. Inevitably, my mind started racing! The rational bit of me tells me it's probably just something I've eaten, though.

Hold on to that rational voice. Take good care of yourself and hope you feel better soon.

Thank you MRex
