Shower after school?

Piixxiiee · 24/08/2020 22:08

In September will you be showering your kids/ yourself straight after school? Changing clothes etc?
During lockdown we were encouraged to put clothes straight into washing machine and shower straight away. I work in a school and have young children in another school. They're in 2 different bubbles then will go to after school club where they're in same bubble.
Just wondering whether to continue with the quick shower immediately once home ( which is annoying yo be honest) for all of us or whether to not..... what's everyone else doing?
Should add that we do bath the kids before bed and I shower in the morning!

I might make that the main wash of the day actually. Shower and comfies, clothes in the washer, quick wash before bed and before school.

Hotcuppatea · 24/08/2020 22:11

No.

Nicknacky · 24/08/2020 22:11

To be honest, it hasn’t even crossed my mind to shower them and I can’t see that changing. They just get changed as normal.

Lovelydovey · 24/08/2020 22:11

Good idea - I hadn’t thought about that. Would be a good habit to get into, though I must try not to stress too much if it doesn’t always happen.

Orangedaisy · 24/08/2020 22:11

Fresh clothes and clean hands here.

MamaGothel · 24/08/2020 22:13

No. My reception age child went back before the holidays and I didnt do the shower after school then so I see no reason to start in September.

GingerandTilly · 24/08/2020 22:13

Yes. I’m a clinically vulnerable teacher and it’s in my risk assessment to do this but pointless just me doing it if my two kids don’t do the same. We’ll just do it in place of bedtime baths.

Risotto4tea · 24/08/2020 22:15

I work in a care home and april/may time we were advised exactly this. Come home clothes in the wash hot shower my DD had a keyworker place and was asked to wear clean uniform each day and I was showering her. To be honest it was an easy routine.
The advise to us has now changed thou we are expected not to wear our work scrubs in public but no need for immediate shower.
I guess just do what's easier/ what you feel happiest with. I'm happy to shower straight away if we are in for the eve but if my DD has dancing or I want to go for a run I dont want to faff round with 2 showers?

Alanna1 · 24/08/2020 22:19

We did change of clothes when they came in and all old clothes into the wash.

11MrsLuther · 24/08/2020 22:28

My youngest went back as a keyworker child and I didnt do this so see no reason to start in Sept. He rarely gets more than a day from his uniform anyway. But if you feel happy, then do what you've suggested- whatever you are comfortable with.

RaspberryRuff · 24/08/2020 22:29

No. They wash their hands and change their clothes. Which will be well and truly quarantined by the time I get round to washing them

GlomOfNit · 25/08/2020 00:17

Increasingly unlikely that Covid19 is spread via potentially contaminated fabrics, so no, I don't think I'll be adding to the general misery by forcing DS1 to have a shower (he loathes showers, has baths instead) and washing his uniform every afternoon! He wears a blazer too - can't wash that every day.

It's no longer thought that fabrics are efficient transmitters and I think doubt has been cast on the role of formites transmission too. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I don't think this thing is going to be spread in schools by everyone touching the same doorhandles. I think it's going to spread because of sheer proximity and, you know, breathing. Sad

TaxTheRatFarms · 25/08/2020 00:35

Mine usually get changed as soon as they get home, and wash their hands.

premiumshoes · 25/08/2020 00:38

No. Mine just wash their hands and get changed as they always have done after school. I think we need to be really careful not to put too much worry onto our children here. Straight to the shower after school, if not how you usually do things, will only serve to make them feel less safe. Let's face it, if they are bringing it home making them shower isn't going to make a difference anyway.

TaxTheRatFarms · 25/08/2020 00:40

aaand it’s too late for my brain to cope with posting! Grin

So they’ll carry on getting changed and washing hands and I’ll get them to wash their face as well. Also in my dreams they’ll wash their lunchboxes too, although I might just fill the bath and throw in the kids, lunchboxes and uniform. Multitasking Wink

bettsbattenburg · 25/08/2020 00:42

Yes. It's what I did after school before the holidays started, home, clothes in the wash and then a shower and wash hair . The DCs will do the same, it's not a hassle to do it and might help.

Elliebobtail · 25/08/2020 05:20

Mine will probably do this most days, we did it before school broke up for the summer.

Treesofwood · 25/08/2020 05:37

Do you honestly think they will come home covered in Covid?

Oblomov20 · 25/08/2020 05:43

No. Never have and I'm not going to. With either ds who are both in secondary. I didn't wipe down my shopping either. I think this is all a complete over-reaction.
We have tried to obey all the rules re social distancing and wearing a mask, but this is just ridiculous.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/08/2020 05:47

Nope. I won't be washing uniform daily either.

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/08/2020 05:50

No. Dh has been back at work for a couple of months and hasn’t been doing this. It didn’t occur to me tbh. If he comes home infected, it’s already too late. Washing clothes won’t help. He would infect us directly.

seayork2020 · 25/08/2020 06:04

How is a shower going to prevent covid?

Why is a shower needed after school?

Goatinthegarden · 25/08/2020 06:07

I’m a teacher and even pre-Covid I’ve always showered straight after school and clothes (not always trousers, but they get hung up away from other clothes) straight into laundry basket before lounging around my house. I’ve also always been fastidious about hand washing, not touching my face, etc. during the school day.

So many contagious things go around schools, it just has always made sense to me.

I’ve just realised that makes me sound a bit odd, but honestly, I’m not neurotic about it, it’s just part of my routine. I shower in the morning too.

theneverendinglaundry · 25/08/2020 06:51

No. My schools havent asked parents to do it so we won't be.

Squeekybummum · 25/08/2020 06:59

We have always showered when we get home from somewhere, only so we can get in our pj's and chill out, this was before all this and have just carried it on.
I did used to try and get a couple of days out of there jumpers but I'll be putting full clean uniforms on every day from next week.
