Shower after school?

Piixxiiee · 24/08/2020 22:08

In September will you be showering your kids/ yourself straight after school? Changing clothes etc?
During lockdown we were encouraged to put clothes straight into washing machine and shower straight away. I work in a school and have young children in another school. They're in 2 different bubbles then will go to after school club where they're in same bubble.
Just wondering whether to continue with the quick shower immediately once home ( which is annoying yo be honest) for all of us or whether to not..... what's everyone else doing?
Should add that we do bath the kids before bed and I shower in the morning!

I think as many are resistant as are becoming obsessive. This may well be true but I find it hard to judge as the resistant people can be rather vocal.

I do wonder if children may find it confusing if school is very hygienic and home very unconcerned.

Factually school is the place my family is most likely to pick up the virus, so I will be pleased if school does take hygiene seriously.

RunningHoops · 25/08/2020 15:04

I think this is a habit we will try to get into. They have to bath at some time so may as well do it then, plus could be destressing after school.

cherrytree0 · 25/08/2020 15:08

There's a Dettol 'Spray and wear' to kill bacteria that could possibly be used.
I change my kids clothes when they come back from school and put uniform into wash then bath in the evening.

UntanglingtheWeb · 25/08/2020 15:09

Even before Covid we did this clothes off in the washer and in the bath as soon as home from school

It definitely is de-stressing. I’m a teacher and I’ve been doing it all through lockdown and I have to say, I’ll be carrying in showering as soon as I get in even post Covid. I feel totally relaxed and feel like I’ve properly switched from work to home.

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/08/2020 15:54

If there's that much virus around they'll be breathing it in anyway.

So no. I'm a teacher of Sen pupils. I may strip off when home and change but I'll have to pick up both my kids before I get home, and carry the smallest so it seems rather pointless.

Gel in car, Hand washing as soon as back, Coats off, shoes off, avoiding touching mouths, cleaning phone etc.

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/08/2020 15:55

I'm clinically vulnerable too.

bettsbattenburg · 25/08/2020 16:06

It has the potential to be harmful to some, particularly the children who are struggling, not fully understanding the virus and prone to anxiety already.

The parents of those children can decide (or the children can decide depending on age) not to then. Parents know their children and can make the best decision. Nobody on the thread is saying it is compulsory, it's a free state.

halcyondays · 25/08/2020 16:14

No, but they’ll wash hands after coming home which we do anyway.

premiumshoes · 25/08/2020 16:15

Obviously. I'm not sure why you quoted what I said and responded with this. It's very clearly a different situation at the individual level. I didn't say nobody or everybody should or shouldn't do itS.

Quite. Which is why I was free to raise the point in the first place.

@LadyPenelope68. I think I'd want to boil wash myself after school each day if I was a teacher!

LadyPenelope68 · 25/08/2020 16:49

@RunningHoops

I think I might feel like boil washing myself every day come September!!Grin

I do pretty much that at the end of every school day. 😂

Aside from Covid, there’s usually a head lice outbreak somewhere, a few dodgy looking skin rashes, plenty of snotty noses and the odd vomiting bug doing the rounds.

I have witnessed many unhygienic acts today, even used the phrase, ‘Why are you licking the bottom of your shoe?’, so I’m not worried that this pandemic is making too many of our children paranoid.

mrshoho · 25/08/2020 19:32

Yes I work in a SEN school and did this most days anyway. We get messy lol . I'm going to suggest to my teens they change and shower when getting home. It just means doing it earlier than last thing at night.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 25/08/2020 19:34

No

HasaDigaEebowai · 25/08/2020 19:35

I'm going to suggest it to my teens. If they're not going out again I suspect they'll quite like a shower straight away and getting into PJs for the evening.

WanderingMilly · 25/08/2020 19:46

I went into school today to help set up, lots of shifting furniture and moving book cabinets etc. Dreadful. Only staff back but no-one wearing any PPE and we're all climbing over each other to get into cupboards/clean etc., so no distancing at all.

Stripped everything off, showered and all clothes straight into the wash when I got home. Will be doing this every day I guess.....

Gingerfish91 · 26/08/2020 02:32

No. I won’t be washing uniform either.

Nicedayforawedding · 26/08/2020 04:35

You could do it but really the fact that the children have been sitting indoors next to a large class full of children makes everything else a bit pointless.

The virus will spread in a classroom environment because it is air borne and no amount of showering afterwards will change that.

BillywilliamV · 26/08/2020 06:44

I shall send my DD in naked and hose her down with bleach in the front garden every afternoon.

Bellesavage · 26/08/2020 06:52

Pointless, she will have already infected your car. Take a super soaker full of antibac and do it outside the school gates at pick up.
BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/08/2020 08:41

Billy me & the next door neighbour liked the idea of a dettol shower that's activated when our back gates are opened Grin

Treesofwood · 26/08/2020 08:43

Billy, she must still wear a mask.

AlwaysLatte · 26/08/2020 08:54

We're going to make that the time for their showers rather than later.

MitziK · 26/08/2020 18:05

When everybody's back, I will be doing it - and it's actually a really nice way to do things; like the relief of shoes off, work clothes off, heading straight into the shower and then in comfortable clothes (in my case, PJs) for the evening is very relaxing/refreshing.

I've been doing it throughout the summer (part time hours) because a) I hate the heat and b) once my arse hits the sofa, it's not budging again for anything other than food, bathroom visits, watering the plants or going to bed. Any small bits of shopping we need will be got by whoever has a day off or on the way home by whoever finishes work first. Most things will be delivered as normal.

I reckon it's just a slightly different routine that'll work quite well for a lot of people - whether it'll make any difference, I don't know. But I've already been ill, so hopefully it's not really something I'd need to be concerned about.
