Shower after school?

Piixxiiee · 24/08/2020 22:08

In September will you be showering your kids/ yourself straight after school? Changing clothes etc?
During lockdown we were encouraged to put clothes straight into washing machine and shower straight away. I work in a school and have young children in another school. They're in 2 different bubbles then will go to after school club where they're in same bubble.
Just wondering whether to continue with the quick shower immediately once home ( which is annoying yo be honest) for all of us or whether to not..... what's everyone else doing?
Should add that we do bath the kids before bed and I shower in the morning!

Both my husband and I do after coming home from work, dd will be too when she comes home from school.

bettsbattenburg · 25/08/2020 07:22

@Treesofwood

Do you honestly think they will come home covered in Covid?
No but it's a harmless precaution so what's the problem ?
TimeForLunch · 25/08/2020 07:25

No.

BanditsBum · 25/08/2020 07:26

We have been back 2 weeks and DS(7) has changed from showering before bed to straight after school.

It isn't entirely Covid related though, it is partly because he wants to go play xbox and it is much easier to get shower/homework done first than to deal with him moody later and ending his game early.

Pipandmum · 25/08/2020 07:28

My child went back part time before summer break and no we didn't do that.

Ohdeariedear · 25/08/2020 07:31

Yes, mine are both showering and changing, and then I do the main wash of the day once they’ve done that. Huge arguments about it the first few days but now it’s just what they do when they get in.

Passthecake30 · 25/08/2020 07:33

No. I have stinky preteens that dramatise everything and forcing them in the shower twice a week is my limit. If we were advised by school I’d do it though.

BlackberrySky · 25/08/2020 07:33

No. We will be doing wash and sanitise hands here. No plans to wash uniform daily.

iVampire · 25/08/2020 07:35

If you’re in the swing of it, keep going

Piixxiiee · 25/08/2020 07:37

Good to hear everyone's views. We did it throughout lockdown after school as it was requested by both schools.i work with very vulnerable pupils so I might continue to do this but dont think i will make the kids. @GlomOfNit I agree. @seayork2020 if you worked throughout lockdown and children in school it was advised by most schools to try to halt the spread. I'm thinking it's more likely @GlotOfNit says that it doesnt spread much on clothes and if one of us have it it would be through breathing it in.

When my dc did half days in July the school advised that the uniform was washed every day. We got into the habit of showering and changing as soon as they got in. It was a pain tbh but on the other hand they were cleaner than normal and that felt nice! Washing is usually a battle (teenagers) and is put off as long as possible but as I insisted on it as soon as they got in, they did it.

Not sure if I have got the energy to do it indefinitely.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 25/08/2020 07:41

I do with my toddler at nursery. Clothes come off in the hallway and straight in the shower.

megletthesecond · 25/08/2020 07:43

Yes.
Mine always had clean uniform every day anyway but in March they were showering the moment they came through the door. It made the evening more chilled too which was s bonus.

MayFayre · 25/08/2020 07:46

Our school will be non-uniform for the time being and is insisting on clean clothes every day.

latticechaos · 25/08/2020 07:47

@seayork2020

How is a shower going to prevent covid?

Why is a shower needed after school?

Covid spreads in three ways:
  1. droplets (from coughs or sneezes)
  2. airborne (breathed into air, then inhaled)
  3. picking up virus from contaminated surfaces then touching face

The idea of changing clothes and washing is to limit route 3).

Mine always got changed after school anyway, then showered before bed, so yes, would just shower then change as it is an easy thing to change.

OverTheRainbow88 · 25/08/2020 07:47

I would change clothes, take off shoes and wash hands.

Catmads · 25/08/2020 07:54

@Goatinthegarden

I’m a teacher and even pre-Covid I’ve always showered straight after school and clothes (not always trousers, but they get hung up away from other clothes) straight into laundry basket before lounging around my house. I’ve also always been fastidious about hand washing, not touching my face, etc. during the school day.

So many contagious things go around schools, it just has always made sense to me.

I’ve just realised that makes me sound a bit odd, but honestly, I’m not neurotic about it, it’s just part of my routine. I shower in the morning too.

@Goatinthegarden I work in a dry cleaners/laundry, I'm customer facing and handling dirty clothing and bedding for the duration of my shift.

I have always washed my hands frequently because I go from putting a dirty load into one machine to taking a clean one out of another.

I also avoid touching my face and hair and always have my hair tied back for work.

I have always had a shower and washed my clothes when I get home.

Like you, that is just part of my routine.

Treesofwood · 25/08/2020 08:03

What a waste of energy. Not only are we now filling the planet with plastic masks and plastic bags, plastic aprons and face visors, we are going to increase our use of water and energy to heat it. This is utter insanity.

Treesofwood · 25/08/2020 08:04

Perhaps we should just burn it all at the end of the day or place walk through anti viral sprays on every door way.

Absolutelylush · 25/08/2020 08:06

I would have thought most children wash/shower/bath every day anyway so what’s the difference if they do it straight after school?

premiumshoes · 25/08/2020 08:08

No but it's a harmless precaution so what's the problem ?

As my previous post, I'm not convinced this is harmless at all. Kids just need to clean their hands and change, as mine have done for any many years after school. They don't need parents feeding them more worry in an already difficult time. It has the potential to be harmful to some, particularly the children who are struggling, not fully understanding the virus and prone to anxiety already.

Willowmartha1 · 25/08/2020 08:09

For goodness sake NO!!!

Willowmartha1 · 25/08/2020 08:10

Neurotic nonsense

loutypips · 25/08/2020 08:14

100 nudists at a naturist resort have contracted COVID. They weren't wearing anything!

metro.co.uk/2020/08/24/dozens-test-positive-coronavirus-naturist-resort-13170837/

I think that changing clothes and washing hands is good though, and if you want to shower then do so. But will you be showering before school to prevent taking anything to school?

Treesofwood · 25/08/2020 08:16

Loutypips maybe they should have been wearing masks. Sure there would have been 0.9% less cases.
