Gymnastics classes - good idea or too soon?

7yo DD's gymnastics class is starting up again.

DD loves it. I'm not sure how I feel about sending her back to it though. In an ideal world we'd wait and see what happens when the DC go back to school, but it'll be too late to book then so I have to choose now.

They're really busy classes in a hall that's used by university students (for sport I think) during the day. They say they're going to cut back the numbers, not do anything the instructors need to touch them for and get them to stand at least 1.5 metres apart.

WWYD?

My DD goes to a very low brow gymnastics group. She has gone back for a few sessions over the summer. Temperature check when she arrives, spaced out and the coach can't help. There was quite a lot of guidance from British Gymnastics, though a lot was about extra cleaning etc.

With cases as low as they are at the moment I would go for it though of course keep an eye on the situation as we go into the autumn in case things change.

My DD has gone back to classes but it's floor exercises only, no equipment.
Temp check on arrival, they must take their own hand sanitizer, they must arrive at the door ready to do gym so parents take clothes and shoes away with them and the spring floor has been squared into a grid and they have a section each. These are only temporary sessions over the summer to get them back into some form of exercise, not sure how it will work once they are back at school.

Sorry I should have said - this isn't a summer class, we have to book now for the new school term, the classes won't actually start till almost October.

Mine are going back to gymnastics and dance properly in Sept. They've done some summer intensives to test the waters and I'm happy with the precautionary measures.

They'd go nuts if I didn't let them go back. And there won't be any zoom classes once they're properly open (except for large classes which are splitting in half and doing zoom one week, live the next).

My 3 year olds just started a little gymnastics class this week. She goes to nursery 3 times a week so I can’t see the difference really! It’s probably cleaner 🙈😂 Temp checks, shorter classes to allow cleaning of equipment, extra hand washing..

How many other people will be in the room at the same time as your DD?

@LilyPond2

How many other people will be in the room at the same time as your DD?
I'm not sure. It's a massive hall. they say they'll be in groups of 6, but I don't know how many groups are in the hall at the same time. They say:

• Gymnasts will line up on ‘spots’ that are spaced 1.5 metre apart.
• Floor areas to be divided into strips, with a maximum of 6 children in each.
• Children will be split into small groups, rotating around the gym, with the same coach.
• Coaches will use their experience and creativity to design classes using our equipment and adhere to social distance rules.
• Gymnasts will only be permitted to perform skills that can be completed without the coach’s physical support.
• After each rotation during the session equipment will be cleaned with an anti-viral spray by the coaches and at the same time the children will be required to sanitise their hands before they move to the next rotation.
• Until further notice only handheld apparatus such as hoops and balls will be used which will be cleaned as above this excludes bean bags and skipping ropes which are more difficult to clean.

I can see they've put thought into adapting the class. I just have a niggle in the back of my mind that we might have a second wave once the schools go back.

My daughter has been back since July in an outdoor capacity, it’s been fantastic and she’s loved it. Back to the hall next week and she can’t wait. I’m happy with everything they have in place.

DS is going back for September and October (at least - he says he doesn't want to go back, but there's a notice period) and I am happy with it. If they're going to be in school in a class of 30, a small group at gym doesn't seem that risky.

(Have resigned myself to the fact that we'll be getting tested or quarantined regardless due to 2 adults working and 2 kids in school)
