Rebranded nightclubs

In my nearest city several nightclubs reopened on Saturday as they have rebranded themselves as bars but for all intents and purposes are still nightclubs! Even advertising as a nightclub on social media. They open the earliest at 8 and shut at 4am. Their Covid secure plans vary but includes remaining at a table as much as possible, encouraged to stay in groups of 6 or less however larger groups can be catered for and music volume will be lower. My niece who turned 18 during lockdown went on Saturday with a group of friends,no one took their contact details, social distancing compromised and very evident in social media photos-lots of hugs, people really close together etc Surely the government need to get their act together and stop places getting around the rules. Cases are stable around here I can see that all changing. In a few weeks the uni students will be arriving, can only see things getting worse. I think the government, if they don’t want to shut these places, should adopt a curfew style approach limiting opening times. Only need to look to other countries to see what happens when young people are out in nightclubs. We certainly won’t be having contact with niece and attached family in the next 2weeks!

Brilliant

At least some kids are getting a semblance of normal teenage life back. I hope more do the same.

If it does get worse, and it's a big if, then we'll cope. More cases without any increase in hospital admissions is the best thing that can happen.

I am horrified by how young people have been deprived of normal life for something that rarely causes them any problems.

Your niece celebrated her belated once in a lifetime 18th birthday (which she missed due to lockdown) by attending a night club that was not operating anything like a night club (I.e. No dancing, remaining at table and had measures in place)? Disgraceful...

Like you say, if you don't like it, don't see her.

Glad to hear your niece is doing something that resembles normal life!
And I say that as someone with a dh who is still shielding.
I hate that my teens have had life so dramatically altered for them, for so long now.

She didn’t have to go. She could’ve gone and then left if not up to Gov guidelines. People have choices. Bar staff aren’t the police and need work.
