Dd has been off form all pm, nausea and slight temp, according to DH (he didnt take her temp, just said she felt hot then gave nurofen). I've just got home and am panicking. Is temp on its own enough to warrant a test? No cough or anything

I would, best to know for sure.

Omelette9 · 17/08/2020 18:53

Yes, a temperature is enough. Get a test done asap, and isolate until the result is in.

Alb1 · 17/08/2020 18:55

It is, it’s one of the main symptoms so you need to self isolate and get a test. I’m sure itl just be a normal child fever but it’s always worth ruling it out; hopefully you’d DD feels better soon.

KitchenConfidential · 17/08/2020 18:55

Absolutely. Get a test ASAP and isolate the household in the meantime.

DamitJanet · 17/08/2020 18:57

Yes, it’s one of the symptoms that requires household isolation and a test.

premiumshoes · 17/08/2020 19:04

Yes it is one of the 3 symptoms.

AugustBreeze · 17/08/2020 19:16

Stop panicking, she's very very likely to be fine, whatever it is that's causing the temp. But yes get her tested.

Hope she feels better soon.

BiznessKat · 17/08/2020 19:24

Had a test for my dd, who had a temp and runny nose. It was very easy. Booked the test at 6.30, test slot at 7. Back home by 7.30 and results the next afternoon. Was pretty sure it was a normal childhood illness and test was negative so all good. Get it done and put your mind at rest

Funatish · 17/08/2020 21:15

Thanks all. Test booked in for tomorrow morning.

Best of luck I was in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago, DS was negative but am very pleased that I know he definitely didn’t have Covid.

onemouseplace · 17/08/2020 22:42

I think DD has just had exactly the same bug over the weekend - high temp (39.4), felt sick trying to eat dinner, very tired.

We booked test for the next morning and results came back negative this morning. She's still a bit up and down though.

This is the new normal I'm afraid - I was pretty sure she didn't have covid, but it was the right thing to do to get the test done (and all self-isolate until results came back - we had to cancel/ rearrange 3 things and it's been a bit of a lesson not to book anything that can't be rearranged easily).

ineedaholidaynow · 17/08/2020 22:54

Just remember @Funatish at some test centres you have to administer the test to your child and can't get out of the car.

Hope all goes well

ballsdeep · 17/08/2020 23:29

I would
My 9 year old had one the other day and it was fine.
I wouldn't give nurofen though. Wasn't there a big fuss about that at the start of this?

Choconuttolata · 17/08/2020 23:33

Ibuprofen is fine with Covid, that advice has changed now they know more. Not that this is likely Covid, dd2 had a temp recently and sore throat and was negative, kids spike fevers quite often with other illnesses. You have to isolate until you get the result back.

Funatish · 20/08/2020 21:04

Very late in reporting back but thank you all for replying. We all went to a mobile testing unit on Tues am, negative results back on Wed am. So relieved!

That is good news. How is your little one feeling now?

KylieKangaroo · 21/08/2020 00:15

My daughter has the same symptoms, how quick is it to book a test?

AugustBreeze · 21/08/2020 00:30

In daytime you can often book one and have it done all within an hour, depending on travel time to the testing. If you book it now I'd have thought you could get s slot tomorrow morning, at least you could round here (pretty rural).

Funatish · 21/08/2020 07:59

Dd is absolutely fine, her temperature disappeared quickly and she was back to normal within 24 hours. I booked the tests online on Monday evening and was able to get one early Tues morning. We live very rurally (Northern Ireland) so it was encouraging that it moved so quickly
