Why isn’t there more deaths atm?

Just that really. Obviously cases are going up and have been for a few weeks. Surely there would be at least an increase of people in hospitals by now at least? Or in a week or so are we going to suddenly have hundreds of deaths again?

@Littlebelina

Cheers, clears up all of the different figures from all over the place

ChavvySexPond · 22/08/2020 22:11

Haven't read the thread but only counting people who die within 28 days screws with the figures.

Especially as treatments are more successful nowadays and patients are taking longer to die.

Also, if you look back the death totals are higher now than they used to be.

The death totals from now will be too.

And yes, there are now 70,000 fewer people in the killable pool, there is a trend towards younger people getting it and the vast majority of people social distancing and curtailing their activities is damping down transmission.

But not many people died in February or March either...

Littlebelina · 22/08/2020 22:19

Also just to clarify the 6 English hospital deaths were reported in last 24 hours, didn't necessarily occur in that time frame. I think (although haven't double checked), that Alex50's figure of 2 is deaths with a date of death of 21st? This figure could still change in coming days

chickenyhead · 22/08/2020 22:21

so we can't be exact, vut its under say 10 anyhow and has been far ages

Littlebelina · 22/08/2020 22:26

Sorry, 2 appears to be yesterday's all setting figure so was low due to the deaths phe removed yesterday that they apparently added again today! Rolling average (28 day methodology) is just below 9 and is figure to watch.

If you keep your school at 4 degrees there is more chance the kids will get hypothermia than covid....
@Gwenhwyfar at one point We were basically being told if we stepped outside we would definitely get and be gravely Ill or definitely kill a granny. I work In patient facing nhs (community) and when the healthcare workers were dying I was starting to get a bit scared that I would definitely get it and die despite being young and healthy, then it came out it was proportionately BAME that we’re dying from it but yet the media love to hype it up and terrify everyone, it’s going to be some job convincing people otherwise

Honestly wish I was back in the 90s without 24hr news/social media
There was an article in the Daily Mail months ago that had about 40 pictures of hospital staff that had died from Covid. They weren't all over 60 by any means. It looked like an equal proportion of white and non-white. The higher the dose of virus someone gets, the higher their chance of being seriously ill or dying, no matter what age or colour. Working in hospitals they were probably repeatedly exposed to the virus so got a higher dose.

Still no extra deaths?
