Home COVID test on child...tips?

My son has come down with something last night.
He started with sounding a bit bunged up, wee sniffles, then he had a temperature and then coughing started.
This morning the temperature isn’t there but he still has a cough and sniffles.
I have phoned up and getting 3 COVID tests sent out. One for my son, myself and my daughter even though me and my daughter don’t have symptoms yet but better to be safe and have all 3 of us checked.
I have watched the video on how to test, the test itself is scaring me more than the thought of having the virus!
Has anyone had to self test their child who can give me tips.
My son is only 5 and my daughter is 7 and I am scared incase I 1. Muck it up 2. Hurt one of them or 3. Can’t test because they resist.
I can’t go to a test centre as it’s the next town over and I don’t drive.
Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.
