it was hard before, not touching the rails, but now, wearing a mask, it is even more disorientating.
i know someone who recently fell and broke his arm in the above scenario

Why cant you touch the rails? Just wash/ sanitize your hands before and after if you're worried

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/08/2020 08:29

It's never occurred to me not to touch the rails while using the stairs. You do realise the odds of having an accident by not using the rails is more likely than catching coronavirus from them?

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/08/2020 08:31

I touch the rails. More likely to die from falling down the stairs in that scenario than from catching covid.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 16/08/2020 08:31

What stairs?

Im my house its just us. I dont really go anywhere with stairs as mainly outdoors. Even if we did supermarkets they have travallator things.

audweb · 16/08/2020 08:31

Just sanitise your hands after using them if you are worried.

Bluntness100 · 16/08/2020 08:32

It’s highly unlikely to be possible to catch it from a surface, as the virus is so delicate it dies on contact, the tests on it living on surfaces was in lab conditions.

In fact the study in Germany where they visited the homes of a thousand people, they couldn’t find it “live” on any surface, even in homes with four infected inhabitants.

Just use the bannister and then sanitise or wash your hands when you can, but you shouldn’t be putting yourself at a bigger risk to avoid one which is basically non existent.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:34

initially they were talking about the rails on the underground for example.
i have been ultra careful at work and in the shops.

OP posts:
CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:35

they talked about people coughing/sneezing into their hands and then using their hands to hold onto railings, as is usual.
i and my colleagues have been very careful to avoid touching the rails.

Sounds like overreacting to me.

You don't know that you can't catch it from surfaces, and even if there was a study that says you can't, there will be another that says you can.
HandsOffMyRights · 16/08/2020 08:39

Dangerous. Hold the rail, wash or sanitise hands afterwards.

This is getting ridiculous now.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:41

It is not getting ridiculous NOW

it has been an issue since March, it is not a new phenomenon, perhaps it past you by?

OP posts:
SqidgeBum · 16/08/2020 08:41

Just sanitise your hands after. I am pregnant and am just super conscious of not touching my face inbetween hand sanitizing, but I hold every railing or escalator.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:42

thanks for the link @Newjez

Sorry, I should have taken out the word 'now'. This kind of fearmongering has always been ridiculous.

The overeaction has not passed me by though.

If I was concerned by this, I’d just sanitizer my hands after.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/08/2020 08:43

It hasn't been an issue for me or anyone I know. I've touched plenty of stair rails, haven't caught corona. I just choose not to live I fear of everything.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:45

good for you not living in fear
bravo Hmm

I looked this up a few weeks ago and as far as I could see the WHO hadn't found any cases of transmission solely from a random surface.

It has always been an overreaction to risk falling downstairs rather than touch a surface when as has been pointed out to can immediately use hand sanitise afterwards.

PleasantVille · 16/08/2020 08:47

@CrowdedHouseinQuarantine

good for you not living in fear bravo Hmm
One person's brave is another person's sensible assessment of the risk.
CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:48

i have managed all this time, but it is the added mask use that disorientates me

OP posts:
Valleydad99 · 16/08/2020 08:50

OP why do you bother asking the question if you don't want to hear people's answers?? Someone gives you an answer & you tell them to piss off & act sarcastic towards everyone else?? Why???
