it was hard before, not touching the rails, but now, wearing a mask, it is even more disorientating.
i know someone who recently fell and broke his arm in the above scenario

The fear of Corona virus , that people
would rather fall down a flight of stairs than touch a handrail it's crazy.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:52

@Valleydad99

OP why do you bother asking the question if you don't want to hear people's answers?? Someone gives you an answer & you tell them to piss off & act sarcastic towards everyone else?? Why???
did you not read the post I was responding to?

it's crazy that people would rather fall and break their arms than risk touching a handrail on a tube escalator in case they might catch a virus -not to mention how dangerous it would be for those coming behind you if you were to fall

Hold the handrail and sanitise your hands afterwards

The tube has never been so clean and I doubt a single person has caught covid from a tube/ stair hand rail

FTMF30 · 16/08/2020 08:55

This is really getting out of hand. The fear that has been instilled into people is very saddening.
It's also as if people don't know about basic hygiene to prevent the spread and a healthy diet/lifestyle to strengthen the immune sysetem smh.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:55

the fall wasnt actually on the tube in this case.
it was at work

OP posts:
CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:56

i have also been avoiding lifts, so flame me!

PhilCornwall1 · 16/08/2020 08:58

How mad is this all now getting? Seems to me people are becoming far more paranoid the longer this goes on.

HeresMe · 16/08/2020 08:58

@Valleydad99
With her being so rude people she should crack on and fall downstairs sometimes you can't protect people from their own stupidity.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 08:59

no @PhilCornwall1
i have been avoiding hand rails since the start of the virus, as have my colleagues.

I can't believe people would risk falling down stairs rather than hold onto the handrail. That's just madness, why would you do that to yourself? Keep hand sanitizer with you at all times and use when you've touched a door handle or handrail.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 16/08/2020 09:06

@CrowdedHouseinQuarantine

no *@PhilCornwall1* i have been avoiding hand rails since the start of the virus, as have my colleagues.
Hi OP, as lots of people have suggested, why can't you just use the handrail then wash or sanitise your hands? I went back to work a few weeks ago and my office is upstairs - I wash my hands after if it's practical to to do so, if not I sanitise them. Same with lifts, not been in one at work, but have in a hotel, I cleanedy hands after using it.

Pretty much everyone on this thread has told you you're overreacting, so that should tell you something really.

user1495884620 · 16/08/2020 09:09

Yes, I have had to use a mask on stairs once and found it did affect my peripheral downward vision. I do have a tiny nose though (stealth boast) so the mask does tend to be quite high on my face. I had to pull the mask down slightly so I could see the stairs properly, touching face and mask with germy hands from the rail. Oh and then transferring my germs from my face/mask back to the rail.

MaxNormal · 16/08/2020 09:16

Really, you're risking falling down stairs rather than touching something? You honestly need to get the risks in perspective, this is crazy.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 09:17

i have been since March,
no virus here!

OP posts:
Allnamesaregone · 16/08/2020 09:17

No I’m not worried about rails.

sashagabadon · 16/08/2020 09:18

masks can be disorientating so I get that - you can't see your feet like your normally could!

so I do take extra care getting on escaltors the first step whether going up pr down as I don't want to misjudge it but I hold handrail too

LizzieMacQueen · 16/08/2020 09:18

Just use a tissue between your hand and the bannister and discard after use.

HandsOffMyRights · 16/08/2020 09:18

But you say your colleagues feel the same (not sure how many this includes that would all feel the same as you), just not many on here.

Geranium01 · 16/08/2020 09:19

And when you fall down the stairs and break your arm, are you also going to refuse medical treatment because there's a risk there might have been Covid patients in the ambulance, at the hospital, or in contact with the medical professionals?

You are disproportionately responding to a small risk you can easily mitigate against by sanitising your hands and washing them when you get the chance to.

alreadytaken · 16/08/2020 09:20

lean your elbow on the rail if you dont want to sanitise your hands. You'll be able to wear washable gloves soon.

madcatladyforever · 16/08/2020 09:20

If you are using public stairs on the way to work why don't you just use gloves then? they are freely available in almost all shops. Bin them when you have negotiated the stairs. I always take gloves when I go into town in case I am in a situation where I need them.
I try and look for solutions to a problem rather than risk breaking something.

PleasantVille · 16/08/2020 09:20

I have an elephant gun for sale, I don't suppose you're interested ?
LadyOfTheCanyon · 16/08/2020 09:21

Why won't you address the point of just sanitising your hands after touching a handrail?
