In The Times yesterday a tiny article on page like 7 saying that last week 5 x more people died of flu and pneumonia than Covid 19. About 950 v 170 or something like that. Going on to say that average death rates are down on last year. Apparently the figures have been like this for weeks. I understand that it's awful if your loved ones die of anything and I'm not belittling the awfulness of this new disease but why do we only hear and read the doom and gloom stories? Because a bit of perspective doesn't sell papers or get people to click on the article online.
A bit of balance would be nice.
And about 30,000 people a year die of flu but we don't trash our economy and our kids education because of it.

30,000 people a year do not die of flu. There are wide annual variations. Also 170 people did not die of COVID last week - maybe170 deaths were reported but that’s quite different. Just look at the excess death rates for a better idea of what’s happening overall
