If You Could Choose Any Education Option for Sept

I'm getting so confused by what parents actually want to happen with schools right now (I'm not a parent, I'm a teacher). I want to know what home opinions my classes are going to be coming in from in Sept - whether they're likely to be nervous or confident, whether they will want to SD or not, etc.

I know parents aren't one hive mind but the 'loudest voice' seems to keep changing its mind. Or I hear different ones, idk.

I'm sure there used to be a board for polls and surveys but, if I wasn't imagining, I can't find it.

So, if you're up for an unscientific straw poll to help me gauge general feeling, can you post A, B, C, D or E in the thread (you can explain if you like, I don't mind!)
A - I want full time schooling as close to the old normal as is allowed
B - I want full time schooling but with safety measures such as social distancing and masks for all who can and are old enough.
C - I want blended learning (half in the classroom and half online)
D - I want to keep my child at home all the time, home school them and not be penalised (ie, I want my place back when I think it's safe)
E - I think schools should remain closed for most children for now.

3.4 million
Over 55,000 registered deaths (this is the official number of deaths actually registered with it up to 31 July as a cause as reported by the ONS)

That’s much more than 1%.

Heathershimmer95 · 16/08/2020 20:10

Sorry ignore me. Posted those on totally the wrong thread while switching windows to check facts on my phone. Apologies.

I'm a TA and just think our children, especially teenagers have lost so much they need normal schooling back

notevenat20 · 16/08/2020 20:32

My concern is that the schools decide that they have to reteach all of the material from March onwards. That would be a kick in the gut for families that worked so hard to make home schooling work.

When we go back it won't be like normal schooling (depending on the school) for some time.

As a TA surely you must be able to see that the plan has a high expectancy of not working?

We need a workable plan. and a plan B.

MrsHamlet · 16/08/2020 20:36

@Bbq1 how will you be working in the new year? Our TAs are not allowed in the classroom with us, so I now have no 1:1 for a year 11 who needs it. If everyone wore a mask, perhaps that child would be able to have his support.
Not a goady question - I am interested in what other schools are doing

WhyNotMe40 · 16/08/2020 20:53

Our TAs also will not be allowed in the classroom but instead will be operating hubs (aka any odd corner where an exam desk can be popped up) for their supported students to come out of bits of lessons.

Most classrooms are not that big, some might be if you measure along the hypotenuse.

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 16/08/2020 21:09

B or C for Primary, C or D for high school.

I don't feel like school as it is being proposed, is bubbles of 250 at our high school, feels safe.

oldmapie · 16/08/2020 21:35

D

Ds has had bullying issues in his year group. I can't send him back knowing he'll be stuck lunchtimes and break times with his adversaries.
I don't think anyone has considered this aspect of bubbles. His friends are in the year above and below, he'd normally spend break and lunch with his friends. Not an option now.

I hadn't thought of that kind of thing. Poor little sausage. I skipped a year so my mates were different from those I took classes with for a while. I feel for him.

Darn it I meant to obscure the name and I’d in that. Can someone help me do it?

RubyMuseday · 16/08/2020 22:18

I’ll try reporting my own post...

@RubyMuseday

It was suggested and denied that UsForThem hijacked this thread.

Here’s the proof.

Why do this? Why skew results of this to be different to the path they were originally taking?

Gosh - is that vote rigging?
StaffAssociationRepresentative · 16/08/2020 22:23

Pointless vote - results are certainly a load of tosh

(I’ve asked for my Initial post to be deleted so I can add this one with id obscured. Feel like that’s the right thing.)

I believe it is. They’re doing it relentlessly. Asking people to flood votes and posts on here and the whole internet.

I work in Special Education so there are 3 TA's in my class plus a teacher for 9 children. Some classes have more TA's and less children. There obviously is no question of TA's not being in class in such a setting. All I know so far is that we will be bubbling up with another class. Very challenging when the children have zero concept of sd and personal care is required but we have to get back to education as what's the alternative? My own ds is 15, beginning his gcse years in September and ok, education won't be normal per se for a while but it's much more normal than working from home.

They need a new hobby 😂

I saw from twitter that they’re not just flooding polls on Mumsnet but also posting threads here.
