Confused about isolation

So... my Mum was with someone on Saturday (at a garden party) who today tested positive for COVID-19.

She thinks she now has to self isolate for 14 days. Government website say test and trace will ask for people you've been in close contact with in the last 48 hours.

So this would mean she doesn't need to self isolate?

I saw her on Monday and yesterday... My friends were supposed to be coming for a takeaway tonight (outside) and they are now saying they won't come in case I have it... do I need to self isolate as well?

Government website doesn't talk about contact with someone (not showing symptoms) who has contact with someone who has tested positive!!!

My boyfriend has been shielding and was supposed to visit next weekend... I'm guessing he will say he's not coming now :-(

Nightmare!!

It depends if she was in close contact with them or not.

This is from the NHS and might help.

If she saw them more than 48 hours before they had symptoms then she wouldn't need to isolate. Does she know when symptoms started? Do you mean it was your mum you saw yesterday and not the covid positive person?

She doesn't need to self isolate according to rules, but I would probably be extra careful around her as the 48 hours is not because it isn't possible to catch it before then, it is about how hard it gets to remember contacts!
