So many people put words in people’s mouth on here. You said you like pizza do you must like bananas. How dare you like bananas.

So odd.

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 16:53

I was replying to the person who mentioned herd immunity and explaining it isn’t possible without a vaccine. It’s a scientific fact. It isn’t. It’s immoral and misguided to believe otherwise. Herd immunity is not a plan nor possible.

Agree with this.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 14/08/2020 17:05

Well the Swedes seem to be managing it.

Do you mean herd immunity? Aren't they only at about 1 in 10 have had it?
Bombergirl · 14/08/2020 17:09

The Swedes aren’t managing it. Not at all. Not even a smidgen of the infections needed so far. Their economy also took a huge hit. Not as big as ours but huge considering their plan. And it’s not even known if those infected will be immune. Research not confident.

I love how people say Sweden without understanding it at all.

Carycy · 14/08/2020 17:16

These people are going to have their businesses destroyed if they don’t open soon. Their livelihoods thrown down the pan. I know someone who invested £150k in a beautiful one just a year before this. She is going out of her mind.

If you don’t want to take your kids don’t take them. The rest of us need to get on with our lives and start making a living to pay for all this shit.

chunkyrun · 14/08/2020 17:17

Can't wait to get back to soft play! There's a lovely one near us next to a farm.

cologne4711 · 14/08/2020 17:19

I find it utterly astonishing that soft play is reopening. Other than nightclubs I can't think of anything more likely to transmit disease (of any kind). But also agree with Carycy - if people aren't happy they don't have to take their kids.

HeresMe · 14/08/2020 17:22

Exactly this I think some people live in their comfortable houses, not worring about money, whilst people are losing jobs right left and centre.

Bombergirl · 14/08/2020 17:23

No we don’t have to take our kids. Pandemics aren’t as black and white as all that though. Have a nice evening.

Nope, they are no where near herd immunity.
Bombergirl · 14/08/2020 17:24

(Definitely not in a comfortable Big house and definitely am worrying about money as my contract was cancelled. Sorry to break the assumption)

phatsandsmall · 14/08/2020 17:32

My theory: government cannot continue to declare soft play as an unsafe environment then in 2 weeks time demand we cram our children into crappy buildings with no ventilation no PPE and barely a chance to social distance while they cough. Sneeze and lick each others faces 6 hours a day.

Yes this is likely. This term is going to be shit.

And you don't think having things locked down will cause more job losses and deaths.

People who want to shield do it, let us who want to move on with our life's do it.

hopefulhalf · 14/08/2020 17:58

*Latticechaos every time I've been bowling the shoes are optional. So they could just do away with the shoes.

Balls can surely be cleaned between each group?

Limit number on groups as they are supposed to in pubs so groups of up to 6.

No reason you'd shout at bowling anymore than you would in a pub*

They are doing just this. I have a very bored 16 yo, who loves bowling and wanted to go for his Birthday in April. The alley emails regularly (previously regular customers). On the 1st with no masks- no way. I am considering doing it next week, it looks pretty safe and definately safer than indoor dining/ going to the pub.

Wtfdidwedo · 14/08/2020 18:09

Just reporting back after visiting soft play in Wales today. We didn't have to book as it wasn't busy but were allocated one table for 90 minutes. There were about 15 tables altogether, but only 8 families while we were there. There was no ball pit at this one anyway, everything else was as usual. Parents ignored their children and drank coffee. It was quiet enough for kids not to be together too much anyway. My local area is averaging 1 case a day so not really concerned.

hullabaloo68 · 14/08/2020 20:57

I doubt soft play will run the way it normally does the balls will be removed and you'll have to book a slot rather than just turning up. Our local one is very clean but has to deal with some parents trying to bring in children with active chicken pox because they're bored at home and kids off school with D&V

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 14/08/2020 21:06

Ours has posted on FB. Ball pit gone, down to 50% capacity, pre-book a table. They've been running for over fifteen years, I hope to god they survive. They're hoping to reopen at the end of August. I will be there with bells on!

TotorosFurryBehind · 14/08/2020 22:10

What concerns me is actually the increased spread of normal childhood viruses via softplay, at a time when any temperature will result in a child being sent home from nursery to isolate. Working parents (and let's face it, it's the mothers who take up the slack) are already close to breaking point, multiple isolation periods with unpaid leave from work will make work unsustainable.

TotorosFurryBehind · 14/08/2020 22:12

I would be really unhappy if anyone in my daughter's nursery bubble took their child to soft play.

That is a fair point. I'm a SAHM so I am not juggling that particular issue.

Another issue though is that the circulation of childhoods illnesses is what builds the immune system. We are potentially storing up serious problems for our kids in the future if we keep them isolated now.

Mumratheevergiving · 15/08/2020 08:48

This Government urges caution then do the opposite in their policy decisions!

Anything that potentially spreads germs to more children / young families seems barking mad just at the point schools re-open. Having said that it makes more sense to me on track and trace that bowling alleys and softplay open who will have people’s details and can wipe down areas regularly between booked sessions. Amusement arcades have been open for a while and people can just wander in and out, no tracing, and press lots of buttons/levers etc so I would see these as possibly riskier?

Having said this I do think the Government approach to quarantine is now rightly more cautious. But I went to an indoors cafe the other day and only realised afterwards they didn’t take any details from me so I do wonder how well the net will work in catching more random spread (seems to be efficient in workplace based outbreaks).

OverTheRainbow88 · 15/08/2020 13:37

I find the softplay opening thing worrying. I was happily sending my kids to nursery but now have the thought in the back of my mind that all the other kids going there could be going off to softplays etc... I know it’s the same with other things but to be softplays are a major concern... much more so than outside playgrounds etc
