Soft play etc opening!

15th August softplay, ice rinks, more beauty salons, indoor events etc..... not sure what to think of that move.

OP posts:

I'm very relaxed about the rules, have let DD3 play with friends and

KitKatastrophe · 14/08/2020 02:31

Whoops!

... was first in line for the outdoor play areas when they opened. But I'm afraid soft play is one step too far for me Sad
Also I don't see how many would actually be able to open. In England, children are still supposed to socially distance so would they have to make it "covid secure" e.g. only one child in each area , loads ofcleaning etc? Or do we think they'll make it no social distancing for under 11s like in Scotland. If not, I don't see how most could open anyway.

I do hope that they allow toddler groups to reopen as they're a lifeline for some parents.

tootyfruitypickle · 14/08/2020 06:07

I had to stop going to soft play in the winters when dd was little, one year she caught 4 different stomach bugs in 3 months, she got so think , and I tracked each one back to soft play. Doubt they’ll be open long.

Wecandothis99 · 14/08/2020 06:26

I won't be going to soft plays personally, they were rank anyway but now... ew!! but am pleased for all the people who have been waiting for all these things to open.

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 06:33

I'm really concerned about this, as it suggests we are just flip flopping wildly now, Johnson doesn't seem able to stick to anything for more than three days.

If we had to delay before, and there are now more cases, why the change of heart?

I feel pretty hopeless about it all tbh, the government has no clue.

Ickabog · 14/08/2020 06:35

@Shitfuckoh

I thought we were at the limit of what we could reopen/do?! Confused
You and me both.

The decision to open soft play is absolute madness.

toohot200 · 14/08/2020 06:37

This is ridiculous. He basically wants everything open and hope for the best....yet he's saying schools must open and we were at the reach of reopening 2 weeks ago? Schools will never ever stay open over winter if everyone is also in and out of soft play. Presumably as it's an indoor area - masks will need to be used for over 11s (parents!)

And the fine for face coverings have gone up to £3200 because he's basically seeing it as a panacea to the virus 🙄

I feel like we will never get out of this. No wonder people have given up.

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 06:44

@toohot200 I agree with what you say.

I can feel myself getting more gloomy, with each day of increased confusion from the government.

I can't believe how unlucky we were having such an incompetent government just when we faced something so serious.

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/08/2020 06:51

YANBU about soft play.

@manicinsomniac
I don’t get the analogy. What’s the difference between hairdressers, dentists and beauty therapists in terms of risk?

user1493413286 · 14/08/2020 06:56

Soft play was always a bit yuck and you had to turn a bit of a blind eye to that but it’s a step too far for me now.

byvirtue · 14/08/2020 06:57

Of course these places should be allowed to open they have been prevented from making any income for 5 months now. Many will have already gone bust as most businesses don’t have enough cash stashed away to pay their rent, rate and bills for such a prolonged period of time.

You don’t have to spend your money at any of these places but at least give them a chance to stay afloat if they can.

Teacher12345 · 14/08/2020 07:01

The only reason they are being allowed to open is because at least 12 have gone bust since lockdown according to one near us that has been rallying people the push for opening them.
They would need to find more money if they don't open them. These places run at a loss during term time so the summer holidays are vitol.
From a cases point of view, it's a mad decision.

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 07:03

Fixed your post Grin

**I don’t get the analogy. What’s the difference between hairdressers, dentists and beauty therapists in terms of risk?

Presumably hairdressers are lower risk as less face to face contact, dentists are essential but when I got my legs waxed it was in a tiny, windowless room, I wore a mask but it wasn't one.of the rules & the therapist wore a (pointless) visor. If I was getting my chin waxed e.g. I.wouldn't have been able to wear a mask. Although I think now masks are 'advised' it's still more than 15 mins close contact

Wtfdidwedo · 14/08/2020 07:12

I forgot that in England children still have to socially distance actually, so it is a bit odd about soft play. In Wales children under 11 no longer have to socially distance and we don't have to wear masks inside.

The places that have opened so far have cleared out most of their tables so only as many people as there are tables are allowed to go. Most seem to be a maximum of one adult per child. Adults aren't allowed on the equipment, within reason I assume. If your child is stuck I assume you can assist!

Minnie888 · 14/08/2020 07:15

I think most people are forgetting that ice rinks aren't just about 1-1 training and public skating. It includes a competitive sport which relies on audiences to fund it, which can be socially distance. Football and cricket aren't the only major sports and ice hockey season is due to start in September but is already delayed.

sqirrelfriends · 14/08/2020 07:18

Every time I take DS to soft play he catches a tummy bug or a cold. No way am I taking him until this is over.

latticechaos · 14/08/2020 07:19

Given what we know about lower temperatures suiting the virus, ice rinks must be quite risky places.

Uhoh2020 · 14/08/2020 07:23

To everyone shouting their disgust at soft play re opening DONT FLIPPING GO THEN!
They said soft play can re open not that it was mandatory to attend jeez 🙄

Fredfrench62 · 14/08/2020 07:26

I think they've made the announcement to re open these people pleasing places to try and cover the absolute fiasco that was results day yesterday. The same with announcing about France. It's not at all coincidence.

No, but in September my children will be in classes with the children of the parents who do take theirs to soft play.

The more virus spreading done now, the more risk of school closures in September.

taraRoo · 14/08/2020 07:30

My son is at nursery again with no social distancing so I've no problem with soft play.

It seems ridiculous that you can get Botox right now but not facials. Plus hairdressers, masseuses, Beaty thespians are already are very up and close. If thee much difference?

I won't be going but surely these places being open could potentially be a risk factor to the people who do attend?

If they are closed, they are not a risk factor at all?

It is difficult as I know it's an economic decision and people's livelihoods are hanging on this decision, but it is too much for me.

The really odd one for me is the Snooker, at the Crucible. Wasn't Sheffield placed on an "at risk list" a few weeks back? Granted it didn't go into local lock down but I'm sure I've seen it mentioned? I imagine the organisers know what they are doing though. Shock

I see this type of post a lot. Why (genuine question) do you feel ok with this risk increase? Is it because generally you don't feel minded to avoid the virus perhaps?

Doing soft play + nursery increases your likelihood of coming into contact with the virus, compared to just doing nursery.

They abandoned plans to have an audience so it is only the players, which is the same as football behind closed doors I guess.
