Family member already over from France - how does this work?

I have a family member from France who travelled over on the ferry Sunday. She is staying with another family member and is due to come to me on Saturday for the night. Can anyone advise me how the quarantine rules would work for someone already in the UK? I am going away to a different country next Fri and dp is self employed so we are confused about what to do

I’d imagine if they are already here then it won’t apply

It doesn’t apply to people who are already here - people returning from France have about 30hrs to do so before the rules kick in. However it’s expected that France will introduce reciprocal rules so your visitor may end up quarantining when they go home unless they cut their trip short

They'll need to quarantine on their return to France, unless they get back across the border before quarantine starts.

Quarantine in France hasn't been announced, and is unlikely be enforced IMO. The whole thing is just security theatre.

Unless I've misunderstood, France hasn't introduced quarantining for people travelling to France: it's the UK which has introduced quarantining for those arriving in UK from France after 4am on Saturday. If I've missed something about quarantine In France, please could you send link as it may affect some friends.

The quarantine that was previously in place in France was voluntary!

Just read on the BBC "France says the UK decision will lead to "reciprocal measures"". It's for the best anyway. No info on whether they'll go with the same timeframe or not yet.

Yes I fully expect they will reciprocate, just needed to know if it was already announced and I'd missed it as friends are supposed to be travelling to France today

I don’t see what’s confusing you

it won't affect the person who is already here from France.
The French may impose a quarantine for when they return to France but I imagine they might be a bit more sensible eg at least give a reasonable grace period before making it mandatory, if at all.

Because I wasnt sure if they would need to quarantine for another 7 days after they arrive to bring it up to 14 days. I won't be here for a start to accommodate that so it's quite important. It's a perfectly reasonable question as there is no guidance on what to do if you are from another country and have already arrived in the UK. There is no need to be snippy
