My ds had a cold starting on Friday. Temp was up to 38.14, and a wet cough. It was an intermediate cough, not persistent. Terrified I booked in for a COVID test and it came back negative. I was shocked the results came within 12 hours.

Anyway, do I keep ds at home until next week? He's well generally, got lots of energy but has a runny nose.

I'm not sure protocol. The test said if it's cold you can go back to work within 48hours so Monday would be 48 hours.

My friend's little one had a cough and they asked him to test and it came back negative the same day so he went in the next day. I think nurseries are doing things differently though so you may need to look at your own nurseries covid guidance.

Our nursery would take him, but we wouldn't take him there if he was ill.

I would say it depends on their policy. The issue is that it's obviously very disruptive to families having to stay off every time children get a cough/temp and the test is negative. However, if other children and staff get unwell with covid-type symptoms due to your child going in, they will all have to isolate along with their families until they get tested and get the all clear.

Happened with DS recently (turned out he was negative) and the nursery asked us to keep him home if we possibly could.
