Skegness and the second wave

Name changed for this as I will be discussing this in real life and just in case...

Went to Skegness yesterday and was absolutely horrified at the lack of social distancing, mask wearing etc. We have been to other places and everything has been fine. I normally love Skegness as I wasn't allowed there as a child as it was too common and there are no heirs and graces around there.

We went to the arcades and my friend and I walked straight in but DP wasn't allowed in with his friend and he had the children at this point until he had been temperature checked. DD and I were the only people wearing a mask in the whole arcade. The second arcade made you wear a mask but everyone pulled them under their nose or their chin and pulled them up if questioned.

My friend got her ear pierced and every time someone talked to her there they lowered their masks to talk. Defeating the point.

I was so shocked at the wilful ignorance of the whole community!

I'm quite relaxed about coronavirus but this was madness.

Has anyone seen this elsewhere?
There have been so many occasions where people have said there will be a second spike and there hasn't been so maybe I'm overreacting?

This kind of thread is put up time and time Again

TrindleGin · 09/08/2020 11:13

I used to get so stressed about other people's behaviour and nothing you can do so just look after yourself and family

Wankpuffin · 09/08/2020 13:07

There’s nothing you can do about other people. You can’t control how/if they wear masks. All you can do is keep yourself safe and stay away from them.

Feellikedancingyeah · 09/08/2020 19:12

In a pandemic it's a bad idea to go to a busy tourist spot . That's the whole point.

MesmerisingMinerva · 09/08/2020 19:15

What Wankpuffin said.

Stay at home, if you need to go out avoid crowds, don't depend on other people's judgement for your safety.

I am avoiding town centres, busy restaurants, all pubs... trips out are into the countryside.

MummaPI · 09/08/2020 19:44

This isn't a real post surely! Grin

Crunchymum · 09/08/2020 20:10

I fail to see how what you weren't allowed to do as a child is at all relevant here?

Jargo · 09/08/2020 20:34

You were contributing to it though, particularly as it was only you and your DD who were wearing masks and not the rest of the people you were with.

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/08/2020 20:37

All visitors to Skegness have Coronavirus. Loss of taste is one of the main symptoms.

BillywilliamV · 09/08/2020 21:23

Dont go to Skeggie in a pandemic unless you really dont mind getting ill, what were you really expecting?

Marmite27 · 09/08/2020 21:24

We went 2 weeks ago. It was busy, but we managed to stay away from people. All the family are symptom free.

TBH any seaside resort is going to be rammed when the weather is nice with kids off school and people furloughed. Add in the extra people that would usually be abroad and it’s a recipe for mayhem.

jcyclops Grin never been to Skegness so cannot comment but that reply made me laugh.

That apart, yes, my response to the kind of thing you describe is simply to not go to busy tourist places any more. I am in Scotland so the schools start back this week which seems to me quite enough risk!

Really? My sister was there today there was hardly anyone on the beach. This post is not real.

I was in Mablethorpe all last week and the beach was great. Arcades too.

We go there because it’s not a trendy place, and people don’t flock there. Massive beach and loads of space suits us just fine.

It’s far too common for mumsnet, that’s for sure.

IfIHadAHeart · 10/08/2020 00:05

It’s airs and graces. Not heirs Hmm

Rowgtfc72 · 10/08/2020 07:54

Stay away from Cleethorpes then. Its rammed!

Xiaoxiong · 10/08/2020 07:58

I swear I have read this post again and again since about May...about Brighton, Cornwall, Durdle Door, pub gardens, central London, that photo in soho with the crowds the night the pubs opened, BLM protests, VE Day... in each case, the poster horrified at the crowds, lack of social distancing and masks and predicting a second wave in about 2 weeks.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 10/08/2020 08:18

Went to Skegness yesterday and was absolutely horrified at the lack of social distancing, mask wearing etc

Not horrified enough to leave though.
