Is this really the only way we can get these youngsters to behave? And will they take any notice?

My 19yo DS had complied with every single thing asked if him with regards covid restrictions but we know he is the "risk" in our family has he is a keyworker and has worked with the public throughout. Imagine if the worst did happen and he goes through the rest if his life believing he was responsible Sad

Right so the vulnerable should all be staying in? Hmm rather than the young avoiding not distancing, going to rammed nightclubs, and not taking any notice of the new restrictions

Shielding has ended and the vulnerable need/are being made/asked to return to work
That's heading back to locking up the disabled out of harms way while everyone else does what they want. We have already done 4 months shielding, how much longer do you want people to do?
If the young observe the distancing, new restrictions, wear a mask and maybe have thought for people they visit/live with then surely everyone can go out

Nightclubs aren't open

Switch nightclub in Preston opened by claiming they were a ‘pub’. It was very busy, with singing and dancing. The Council tried to block it opening but there was a legal challenge so they couldn’t.
As long as businesses continue to take the piss then the virus is going to continue to spread among this age group.
Having said that, the slogan is stupid and ineffective. The children and young people who know how a virus spreads and how dangerous it could be to older relatives are already doing all they can. The ones who don’t know or don’t care are going to carry on doing exactly as they please.

In Preston one of them is because they are claiming to be a bar - that is the problem and that is why the message is targeted at the people who may (funnily enough) go to to the packed bars and dodgy club. It can't be a coincidence that since Switch reopened the incidences in people under 30 have risen in Preston 🤔

spreading a deadly virus by refusing to follow social distancing guidelines. Hence the lock down

Yet these same groups of teens are being told they can go and mix in year group bubbles of several hundred, with no masks and no social distancing and it'll be fine as they transmit it less.

We can't have it both ways.

Are teens and young people able to transmit or not? And if yes, why are they fine to mix at school and college, but not hanging out together in a park or even one another's homes, or even in a pub.

At Preston Hospital there have been no deaths related to Covid-19 in the last 28 days.

The message is ridiculous and is another way for us to be pointing fingers and blaming each other.

I live in Preston and I was out in Preston on Saturday night. The vast majority of people were being perfectly sensible.

lotusbell · 10/08/2020 16:44

@AlcoholicHippo, where did you go, just out of curiosity? Been a while Grin

SomewhereEast · 10/08/2020 16:50

The intended message is "Stop partying". The actual message might just end up being "Keep socialising with your peers but also keep social distancing with granny". I wouldn't blame any teen or twentysomething for picking the latter.
