Wearing masks in the home

Dontknowwhybut · 08/08/2020 17:23

I don't understand why we don't wear masks at home. Given that it is the most likely place to pass it on, and associated witha lot of community transmission, wouldn't it make sense to do this? Obviously there would be issues with enforcing, but why protect strangers and not our families. (if they are protective)

@Dontknowwhybut

Crazycatlady the police can now remove by force anyone they suspect to be infectious. The legislation is there, in place. Not infectious, just suspected by a non medical public health officer. If masks work, we should wear them at home.
You sound as though you'd be quite happy drifting towards a police state.

No normal person is going to wear a mask in their own home. It is not realistic or in any way enforceable. What happens at night? Do we have to wear masks all night? (Sounds dodgy!)

I can't decide whether you are on a wind up or deluded. Sadly I'm beginning to think it's the latter.

PJ6M · 10/08/2020 13:03

The chance of infection is about proximity and duration of exposure. A mask ain't going to do diddly squat if you spend 16+ hours a day with the same people in the same space.

That's why.

minnieok · 10/08/2020 13:07

Do want you want but I think there's more efficient ways of passing on diseases in your own home than breathing. Grin. I'm guessing you are single.

minnieok · 10/08/2020 13:11

@Dontknowwhybut

I'm confident (because it happened) that if one of us got covid, the other would, it wasn't the breathing 1m apart trust me Grin. If you are in a relationship unless you are sleeping in separate rooms, no intimacy etc then masks are no point

PickAChew · 10/08/2020 13:12

Oh, give over.

UpCloseAndPersonalWithGlenda · 10/08/2020 13:14

Isn't wearing a mask while shagging a Thing for some people? Are you really confessing to being a fetishist, OP?

Masks are not the answer op.

Every household should aquire the means (kettle, microwave, fridge) to isolate each person in a separate room for all things apart from the loo. Also enough food and access to water/bottled water and enough to scrub the room thoroughly.

Going to the loo should require full ppe and you clean before you start and after you finish. Using a potty should be encouraged by adults and children alike where possible if just having a wee.

Children under 16 who cannot care for themselves should be kept with one parent. The same goes for anyone needing a carer, they should be room isolated with 1 or 2 appropriate carers.

Every public place should be closed and locked so literally only the emergency services are operating.

This will last for 14 days.

At the end of the 14 days household will have two days to scrub their quarantine rooms, shower, clean their house etc.

On day 17, everyone will take a test to show they are clear. No one will be permitted out the house without a letter stating they are clear.

Anyone who is positive will be taken into Government lockdown with their household as they will be considered to have breached the rules. They will be isolated in that room for a further 14 days with basic provisions. A year at the end to show their clear.

Anyone found on the streets before the 16 days will be arrested and anyone outside afterwards without a negative result will be fined 1000k, imprisoned until it is paid.

That would solve it!!

islockdownoveryet · 10/08/2020 13:28

Remove from where? Their home?
You are being utterly ridiculous.
Yes
The police aren't seven going to shops for people that aren't wearing a mask so how the hell are you going to get this enforced? . And if even if they did they don't have the time or resources. Do you actually expect the police to knock on every door in the UK ? or maybe we should all have cctv in our homes so the police can see us at all times .
And actually you are wrong you can do what you like in your own home. It was said right at the beginning op but if you want to wear a mask at home do it , stop forcing your ridiculous opinions on everyone else .

LadyGAgain · 10/08/2020 13:32
Confused
LadyGAgain · 10/08/2020 13:33

You can't compare us with New Zealand. It's a non starter argument.

Userzzz · 10/08/2020 13:39

Do you wear your mask at home, OP?

DianaT1969 · 10/08/2020 13:40

@don'tknowwhybut - are you seriously comparing the UK with New Zealand? With its population of 4.8 million? Around half the population of London but with much more space. Crack on.

cherrybakewells3 · 10/08/2020 14:20

Are you bored op? I don't believe for one moment anyone would be as deluded to suggest this and certainly don't think this is genuine.

Funny because I commented on a post the other day to say I'm sure some people on here sit in their own living rooms with them on.. here you are.

If you would like to sit in your own home like like a total fruit loop and wear one crack on.

BiBabbles · 10/08/2020 14:21

To my knowledge, even those medically recommended to wear masks before COVID were often recommended to have a clean room/spaces in their home where they could, as safely as possible, be without their mask for their own wellbeing. Often multiple people within a home would maintain it for the wellbeing of one.

There were a lot of writings a few months back from people with certain chronic conditions or underwent transplants who needed to be particularly careful about preventing infections if only for a time. Far more of the recommendations were around being strict with hygiene and cleaning routines and none recommended wearing masks at the time at home which, for most of the public, has always been a back-up to other behaviours.

Always washing your hands before touching your face, while tedious and alongside other hygiene behaviours, will do far more to reduce your risk than masks. And really, a law is a suggestion unless it can be enforced and we really shouldn't be wanting the police to enforce something like that in our own homes.

Uhoh2020 · 10/08/2020 14:43

OP if it makes you feel better to wear a mask at home then that's fine go for it. It will not make a single bit of difference to you if others do or don't wear a mask inside their own homes.

Dontknowwhybut · 10/08/2020 16:45

Crazycatlady read the guidance. www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-potentially-infectious-people
You only need to have symptoms and Public Health Officers will have these powers over you. If masks stop the spread and save lives then wearing them at home makes sense. Even if it just reduces, the risk slightly it's worth it.
I agree if there's been no cases of covid in an area for 28 days why wear masks in the supermarket?

Dontknowwhybut · 10/08/2020 16:48

Ladygagain we are compared with every country in the world. Lessons learnt etc.
South Korea, China, Japan. (high populations etc)

@SleepingStandingUp

Until a plane arrives at Heathrow with mail/container ship arrives with cargo etc etc. It worked in Eyam with the plague but we now have an interconnected world. Now if you could world wide ....

Sossen · 10/08/2020 17:09

Seriously?

pinkpetal2 · 10/08/2020 17:19

What would be the point? The minute you sleep with your partner surely all that panting or whatever is enough to through coronavirus particles everywhere. Confused or are you meant to give up sex also to just wear a mask 24.7?.

golddustwomen · 10/08/2020 17:20

Oh fuck that.

Sorberret · 10/08/2020 17:24

Ridiculous op but if you want to then go ahead. Do you also think people should practice social distancing at home?

OLGADEEPOLGA · 10/08/2020 17:24

You crack on with wearing a mask at home OP. Some people are now taking this love of mask wearing to the extreme. It'll be a new Olympic sport soon, how many things can one person do wearing a mask?

Sunrise234 · 10/08/2020 17:30

If you wear a mask out and about your less likely to pass on the virus.
If everyone does this there’s less chance you or your family will get the virus.
Therefore theoretically you shouldn’t need masks at home as none of you would have picked up the virus.
